Celexa is an antidepressant to where alprazolam is a benzodiazepine. Some docs will prescribe a benzodiazepine until the antidepressant starts to work. Since your friend is already on a benzo, doc might keep her on a small dose until the Celexs starts working. In my experience, most antidepressants I’ve been on help with anxiety and depression.
Hello!
As far as my experience tells me Celexa is far more effective than a sedative. They are two very different classes of drug. Benzodiazepines might mask the symptoms by dulling your senses but anti-depressants like Celexa work long term to correct the imbalances that cause depression. The alprazolam, although a depressant medication that can also cause depression as a side effect, might still be good at night for sleep.
