Has anyone taken low dose naltrexone for weight loss?

I was prescribed naltrexone 50mg last week, I haven't taken it yet, but they are going to take the port from my lap band out and my BMI isn't enough for me to have a revision, and I'm a cigarette smoker, I was told that it would help my cravings for cigarettes and over eating, I will be starting them soon, and when I do I will keep everyone posted. Did Naltrexone help with weight loss, I only started this last week, so on 1mg, I have to increase it weekly over the next 4 weeks, at 1mg extra per week. So it will be 4mg then. If the 4mg is suitable then I will get 4.5 in tablet form. Liquid at the min.
I am on Metformin with type 2 diabetes, which has helped see almost the first 5 stone of me.
I could do fasting, and watch what I put in my mouth. Now I'm eating all sorts of rubbish again, so it's going to go back on more.
I can feel it going back on, I feel so heavy and sluggish.
I am morbidly obese anyway,but felt better with the weight loss.

Nothing is working for fibro pain.

My doctor just prescribed me Naltrexone. I'm not a drug user nor have I ever been. I'm over weight and I'm also I topamax 75mg 2xs daily. Since being on Topamax I've lost almost 30lbs in two months. It makes anything with sugar in it taste terrible. Which is good because I'm a diabetic. Naltrexone also helps to block the brain from getting any satisfaction from bad foods. Fried, high in fat, sugar. Hope this helps

I’m surprised at how many people are giving incorrect responses. Yes, this drug is used for alcohol and opioid issues, but it is also used for a weight loss aid. I went to the Bariatric center and saw weight loss doctors and specialists. I just started on 25mg about a week ago. I’ve noticed that I’m not having food cravings like I was, I’m not mindlessly snacking, and I’m not always hungry. I’ve had some mild side effects in the form of feeling a little depressed, tired and having mild headaches. I’m waiting to see if these side effects pass. So far I’ve dropped 4 pounds. I do know often Naltrexone is paired with Wellbutrin, but the stimulating effect of Wellbutrin causes anger issues with me, so I’m only taking Naltrexone. Good luck!

I initially took naltrexone for weight loss as a part of Contrave. It was extremely helpful. I am 5'1" and my peak weight when I started Contrave was 186 lbs. I lost 66 pounds over about 7 months. I then had a job change and could no longer afford to take it. I gained back 27 pounds over the next 14 months or so. My insurance did not cover Contrave and it cost $115 a month.

I have a wonderful doctor though, so when my employment stabilized I went back in and we talked about it and decided to try 150mg of bupropion twice daily with 25mg of naltrexone once daily. I had to wait a couple days to get the naltrexone from the pharmacy but here's the thing - within a couple of hours after taking the naltrexone, my appetite fell, my cravings vanished and I felt full so much quicker when I ate dinner. Before the naltrexone, I would eat after I was full, now, I don't care how good the food is, I simply can't eat if I'm full. I've lost 2 pounds this week!

I just started taking 3 weeks ago. Appetite has gone to a 1/3 and have lost 13 lbs. You still have to have willpower but it works great for me. I need to lose 40 lbs to get to my normal weight.

I have been on the keto diet on and off now for a year and it has not done a thing for me. I'm on Seroquel for my bipolar disorder and about two months ago I went from 200mg a day to 300mg due to being depressed a lot which has helped. I'm much less depressed now and feeling more normal again.

But the tradeoff is that I had problems with weight gain before going up to 300 mg of Seroquel now my weight gain is in overdrive. I have gained 7 lbs in two months and I already eat healthily and exercise regularly. My doctor put me on Sexenda (also goes by Victoza for diabetes) (injections) and I had severe side effects on it. I tried to go up on my dose for 1 month and could not tolerate more than 0.6mg and for weight loss, I'm supposed to be on 3.0 mg a day.

I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow and want to try Naltrexone next

Don't see any correlation between weight loss and low dose naltrexone. In fact, I've been on the keto diet for 2 months and got very little if any
weight loss
compared to the hype about the keto diet.

I am currently on naltrexone. I also get the shot form for opiate abuse. It has literally saved my life! As with most addicts the longer I am clean, the more weight I gain. I recently heard the pills can help with weight loss so I began taking them. In 3 wks I lost 6lbs.

I have been taking Wellbutrin 450mg for quite some time but recently dropped it to 300mg. I also take Effexor 75 mg, dropped from 150mg due to side effects. I do TRT therapy and have started Naltrexone therapy. I'm up to 18mg a day going to 50mg next week. First two days had some gastrointestinal issues but that has resolved. Not sure how the 50mg will go.

I take Naltrexone because I could not stop drinking alcohol and also take wellbutrin as an antidepressant and for my daily fatigue. For starters, Naltrexone is a miracle drug in my opinion! I am no longer craving alcohol. Wellbutrin hasn't helped with giving me any energy so my doctor told me I could stop taking it. I had already read somewhere that the combination of Naltrexone and wellbutrin are prescribed together to some patients with weight issues. I happen to be over weight and have been having the hardest time losing weight. I didn't notice right off that the combination of the 2 drugs was actually helping me lose weight until I stopped taking wellbutrin. After stopping wellbutrin I became super hungry and started putting weight back on so I put myself right back on wellbutrin. The combination of the 2 seem to suppress my appetite which in return helps me lose weight. So far I've lost somewhere around 30+ lbs since I started taking Naltrexone about 5 months ago.

Yes!!! look up Dr westin Childs... and Dr Isabella Wentz. It is used for people with thyroid disorders. Most Dr's don't bother updating their knowledge of thyroid disease. Sooooo they don't know about using it for weight loss.

I have had great luck with naletrexone/wellbutrin combo. 45 pounds in 3 months.

I currently take 150mg's of bupropion sr. I would like to add naltraxone instead of switching to CONTRAVE. What is the correct dosage? I also take Topamax, do I need to stop that? I cannot find a physician who knows about dosing in my area, would be helpful if someone could respond with details of what to ask for. Is there a site with more information?
