What's the best generic Fentanyl Patch? SANDOZ? MYLAN?

Sandoz by far. It contains the most fentanyl and it sticks well. I still use the overlays which I get online.

The answer is subjective when comparing 2 drugs in the same category. Some will swear by Mylan and some by Sandoz. As Caligirl mentioned the only way you would know the difference is if you tried both as she has. Not all manufacturers formulation are across the board. Additionally contrary to popular belief that generic is the same as brand name. This is false. They are not equal to each other. In fact there are some people that can not tolerate the generic version and they can only take the brand name such as several of my customers at the pharmacy. So to the person that posted about losing her sister to Sandoz brand, I am so sorry. I have tried & tried to speak to the pharmacist & my doctor about the issues with different manufacturers. Here is what is crazy! The active ingredient (fentanyl) is different! Yes the sizes of the patches are different but should have no relevance. The total amount of active ingredient should be the same. Sandoz has the highest amount as does Duragesic “the brand”. I am on the 50’s and have been for 10 years. Here is a breakdown:

Alvogen 18.88 cm/2. 5.32/mg of fentanyl
Mylan 12.5 cm/2 5.10/mg of fentanyl
Janssen&Sandoz 21/cm2 8.4/mg fentanyl
Mallinckrot size 19/cm2 5.5mg/fentanyl
Apotex 21.4/cm2 5.52mg fentanyl

Always look on the outside of the box and it will tell you how much of the “active” ingredient there is. Sandoz and the brand names discontinued all fentanyl patches probably for this reason. My pharmacy would only fill my pan so I went through sever withdrawals. I hope this helps you guys!

I have taken fentanyl 100 mcg Mylan patches for 11 years, they are Dr. ordered and the Best!!

I forgot to mention, depending on your dose if you are using more than one and start to feel dizzy, it means you are getting too much. It can be because you are doing nothing when normally you are somewhat active. If and when it happens to me I remove one 50 mcg patch and am ok within 20 min. but if I start doing things again and hurting I reuse the one I removed. As long as you stick it to plastic that it will peel off after it can be reused. Sometimes just moistening the location helps or the No No clean area with rubbing alcohol and placing it on while still a bit moist.

Over the past 20 years I've tried most of them and by far Teva and Mylan are the best for pain control and staying on after you put them on. They are both Matrix patches but Mylan has about half the Fentanyl in them but every other brand still has half the Fentanyl on them when you take them off where Mylan only has a bit. You still get the same amount in your body though. I stick with Teva since once on they stay on especially if your body gets used to having them in the same place each time. I place mine on the front of my upper leg where my skin is tight and flat and have no issues at all.

Sandoz has discontinued their fentanyl patches. I called the company today and was given the bad news. I’ve relied on their patches for pain control for years. I’m currently using Mallincrodt patches and not doing well. I’m trying to research which patches are most similar to the Sandoz. Any input would be much appreciated.

I would suggest to anyone that uses the sandoz brand to not. it has overdosed ppl. including my sister who is now dead. and they have lawsuits against this brand.
we used to always try to get this brand because it worked good. but death was the price I paid for or. I told my pharmacy to makr5sure I never get this brand.
you can look it up and find out that this brand has lawsuits from overdosing ppl.

I would suggest that u never get sandoz brand. for 1 my sister died of overdose from this brand as has many others. they have lawsuits about this brand. we use to always try and get this brand and the price I paid was my sister. if u don't believe me do some research on this brand it has overdosed others

I have not been able to get. Watson, or par brand patches the only ones that works. But my doctor wrote me a script for either par or watson and told me that he was going out of business. His company was bought out and told him that they are closing up his office. So now not only can I not get the right patches but I can't go to my pain doctor and get something else. After 10 plus years on 100 mcg. Anyone know what to do. I think that the pharmaceutical companies should be held accountable for us not being able to get the proper medicine prescribed for us. What do you think.

I've been on mylan for almost a year and I'm having g problems keeping them on now that hotter weather is here. They tend to itch a lot I'm using reader overlay and mylan overlays the company sends for free I'm wanting to try this other so if you do get to try Sandoz Please inform if you have any problems I can say Mylan does work good but maybe it's me post menopausal why I'm having trouble I think with either one you will get a little quality of life back O didn't want at first but Mylan brand has been a God send.

I was switched from branded Duragesic to generic Mylan fentanyl and went through withdrawal. It was horrible. All the muscles in my body ached.

I just found out that my pharmacy no longer carries 25 mcg Actavis brand and I had to get Mylan brand. They said that there was a recall of all Actavis patches. I can not find anything thing on the internet about a recall.
They gave me Mylan brand early last year for one month and they did not work well at all. I had to take twice as much breakthrough medication. I have been designating Actavis ever since, but now it looks like they are no longer available. I tried Walgreens, CVS and Fry's and none of them carry it anymore. I am thinking that because they are the gel and easier to abuse that pharmacies don't want to carry them. I wish I could find a pharmacy in Phoenix, AZ that carries Actavis because I would take my next prescription there. It is too bad there is no way to search that on the internet. If anyone know of a pharmacy that carries Actavis please post.
p.s. I found this out on Walgreens site: Do not switch brands of this drug unless you talk with your doctor. It was Walgreens who won't order the Actavis for me anymore, how ironic.

I have found that the matrix type patch causes a bad chemical burn on my skin. The patches with the gel are not as bad. They are however so hard to get. It seems with the government regulations that we cannot drop off the prescription until we need it, and then the pharmacies don't have them. The problem then is that we are out there going through withdrawal while the health care companies decide to pay for the prescription or the pharmacy can REMEMBER that you get this every month. I had a young friend die when she could not refill her prescription so be very careful.
