Terazosin Dosage

Applies to the following strengths: 1 mg; 2 mg; 5 mg; 10 mg

Usual Adult Dose for Hypertension

Initial dose: 1 mg orally once a day at bedtime
Maintenance dose: Initial dose may be increased slowly as needed and appropriate; usual recommended dose is 1 to 5 mg orally once a day
Maximum dose: 20 mg/day

Comments: If blood pressure response is substantially diminished 24 hours after dosing, an increased dose or use of a twice a day regimen can be considered.

Usual Adult Dose for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Initial dose: 1 mg orally once a day at bedtime
Maintenance dose: Initial dose may be increased as needed and appropriate in a stepwise fashion to 2, 5, or 10 mg orally once a day
Maximum dose: 20 mg/day

Comments: A dose of 10 mg once a day is generally required to obtain a clinical response. A minimum of 4 to 6 weeks at this dose may be required to fully assess a patient's response.

Use: Treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
