Can buspirone and Prozac be taken together? I’ve been on Prozac for about 3 weeks. My anxiety is awful. The Dr won’t give me benzo’s because I’m 69. I’m really needing something for my nerves. My nerves have been bad my whole life and I’ve been on something my whole life. I’ve got Fibromyalgia too and the Prozac is supposed to help the nerve pain. Not working yet. Can anyone give me suggestions of anxiety meds the dr may prescribe for me? Thanks

I’ve been told by my Dr that being over 60, that taking benzo’s could cause mental decline, lead to Alzheimer’s.

I take Lexapro and Buspar together. At one time I took Prozac but I can't remember if I was taking the Buspar at that time. I also take Klonopin. I have for years. What does being 69 have to do with it?

Using busPIRone together with FLUoxetine can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Severe cases may result in coma and even death. You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience these symptoms while taking the medications. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns.
Your doctor may already be aware of the risks, but has determined that this is the best course of treatment for you and has taken appropriate precautions and is monitoring you closely for any potential complications.
