I just finished my first month on Remeron (Mirtazapine) and although my depression has lessened, my anxiety has not. Should I ask my dr. to switch? I also have "different" kind of anxiety..I am not a neat, organized person (but not a slob), and all of a sudden the "clutter" in my house is sending me into almost a panic. I am very irritable, and constantly on edge. I also have another question... besides benzo's. what AD has worked for you all to lessen anxiety? Thanks.

Hi Haley4540,
Although its been a few months since your last blog, I was wondering how you went with your meds increase... Had it improved? Are you feeling better? I've also been prescribed with Mirza and feel as its not working as it should...

Thank you all so much. Doctor increased my dosage to 45mgs, and said studies show that Remeron is more effective for anti anxiety than cymbalta. With that said, I'll give it a go. I see him in 3 weeks, and if nothing changes, I guess I'll change meds.

I took Zoloft and Paxil for ten years.
The anxiety may be from realizing how depressed and slowed down you were, and trying to "catch up" on normal daily tasks.
Me never been "organized" but did a demanding techie job all through my years of depression.
Short story -- anxiety is much better than depression.
Anxiety you can work with --you can actually do stuff that will reduce anxiety - clean the house - support your kids and spouse - whatever.
With depression -- I was so slowed down and out of it I couldn't do hardly nothing -- hard to even move.
Adjust the meds if you're really bothered by the anxiety -- but consider that the anxiety may be a really normal response to the recovery from the depression. With the depression going away, you can actually be active and respond to the things that trigger anxiety. And that is a really good thing.
In my experience, it takes a while to "catch up" on all those normal things after a bout of depression. Fell so far behind on so many things when depressed.
But now recovered -- hope you do well -- just don't fall into the guilt trap and the residual depressing factors.

With a certain amount of anxiety, I am more motivated to "get things done". However, sometimes I feel such agitation (out of my skin) feeling that it is paralyzing. With my depression, I am not motivated to do things, but feel I can function better than the severe anxiety. I guess everyone is different. I now resorted to keeping klonopin at hand at all times, lol

Hi,anti depresants dnt always wk or agree with people and they Take time 2 wk,didnt wk4my anxiety,i keep busy,do pilates,exercise2relax,i take diazapam4sleep and2relax,c a pschlogst or a gd doc 2 help u and advise u wat else u could do.all the best x

I was on Cymbalta not long ago and my anxiety was almost non existent on the lowest dose after about 3 days. Cymbalta is known to work quicker than other anti depressants.

Hello Haley4540. Not amount of increases to the Remeron/Mirtazapine is going to help you in regards to anxiety. Remeron is prescribed as an antidepressant, because that is its function. It is prescribed off label but not for anxiety. Your doctor will have to prescribe you another drug for your anxiety. I currently take mirtazapine (off label for insomnia) and I take Paxil (Paroxetine) for anxiety. Regards, pledge

Follow up thought. Haley I suggest you find another doctor. (not attempting to be rude). Perscribing Remeron for anxiety is similiar to a surgeon operating on a toe, but instead operates on a elbow. If anything, get an opinion from another doctor or ask a pharmacist for thier thoughts. best wishes, pledge

I take for anxiety and has really helped. A friend of mine took for anxiety and she said helped for 2 years. Worth try!

Saw my dr. today, and actually said that studies show that remeron is more effective for anti anxiety than cymbalta. He increased my dosage. I will give it a try, and if that doesn't work I will seek a second opinion.

No, you should tell your doctor and see what he says, it may be that you need the dose increased. Be sure you tell him exactly how you feel. It could be he thinks you need a different med, but he will discuss it with you.
