How long does Tresiba last without refrigeration?
Tresiba that has been opened may be kept at room temperature (59 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit [15-25 degrees Celcius]) for up to 56 days (8 weeks). This is much longer than most other insulins that can only be left unrefrigerated for up to 28 days.
Once you have taken Tresiba out of the refrigerator for more than 15 minutes, do not put it back in the refrigerator. If you have not used the entire contents of the pen within 8 weeks, then discard it in the trash.
Tresiba (insulin degludec) is a long-acting man-made insulin that lowers levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood in patients with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
Tresiba is an insulin given once-daily and provides a long duration of action beyond 42 hours. While long-acting insulin should normally be injected subcutaneously at the same time every day, you can dose Tresiba at any time of the day, if needed.
Tresiba is available in the FlexTouch device, a prefilled insulin pen.
The Tresiba U-200 FlexTouch can deliver a single dose of up to 160 units.
The most common side effects with Tresiba include hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), allergic reactions, injection site reactions, pitting at the injection site (lipodystrophy), itching, rash, edema (fluid build-up), and weight gain.
Tresiba is manufactured by Novo Nordisk in Plainsboro, New Jersey.
