Triprolidine Breastfeeding Warnings

The manufacturer makes no recommendation regarding use during lactation.

Excreted into human milk: Yes

Comments:
-The American Academy of Pediatrics classifies this drug as compatible with breastfeeding.
-Some experts recommend the use of non-sedating antihistamines during lactation (e.g., desloratadine, fexofenadine, loratadine).

Use in larger doses and/or prolonged use, especially with sympathomimetics or before lactation, may result in a decreased milk supply and/or adverse effects in the breastfed infant. Antihistamines administered in relatively IV high doses to postpartum and nonlactating women have decreased basal serum prolactin; however, suckling-induced prolactin secretion was not affected by antihistamine pretreatment in postpartum patients.
