Leucovorin is also known as: Wellcovorin

Leucovorin Pregnancy Warnings

Leucovorin has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. Animal reproduction studies have not been performed. It is also not known whether leucovorin can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or can affect reproduction capacity. Leucovorin (folinic acid) is considered a vitamin that is approved by the FDA for the treatment of megaloblastic anemia due to pregnancy when oral therapy is not feasible. Leucovorin should only be given during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.

Leucovorin Breastfeeding Warnings

It is not known whether leucovorin (folinic acid) is excreted into human milk. A similar compound, folate (folic acid) is actively excreted into human milk. Adverse effects in nursing infants have not been associated with the use of folic acid during lactation, and it is considered compatible with breast-feeding by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The manufacturer recommends caution when leucovorin is administered to a nursing mother.
