Corticorelin Dosage

Usual Adult Dose for Cushing's Syndrome

Testing dose: 1 mcg/kg IV over 30 seconds

• Doses greater than 1 mcg/kg are not recommended

Comments:

• Some adverse effects can be reduced by administering the drug as an infusion over 30 seconds instead of as a bolus injection.

Use: Differentiating pituitary and ectopic production of ACTH in patients with ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome.

Precautions

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

• Hypersensitivity to ovine corticorelin or any product excipients

Administration advice:

• For intravenous injection only
• Some of the adverse effects can be reduced by administering as an infusion over 30 seconds instead of as a bolus injection

Reconstitution/preparation techniques:

• Reconstitute vial with 2 mL of solidum chloride injection; to avoid bubble formation, do not shake
• Roll the vial to dissolve product

Storage:

• Store refrigerated 2C to 8C (36F to 46F); protect from light
• Reconstituted solution: Stable for up to 8 hours when refrigerated

General:

• If a repeated evaluation is needed, the repeat test should be carried out at the same time of day as the original test.
• ACTH and cortisol responses are prolonged and remain elevated for up to 2 hours; maximum increment in plasma ACTH occurs between 15 and 60 minutes following administration with the maximum increment in plasma cortisol occurring between 30 and 120 minutes
