Medications for Heart Murmur

A Heart Murmur is a sound that can be heard when listening to the heart with a stethoscope. A murmur is heard when the blood flow through the heart is turbulent instead of smooth. A heart murmur can be innocent (harmless) which is caused by the blood rushing through the heart quickly or it can be an abnormal murmur which is a sign or symptom of heart problems. Heart problems that cause an abnormal murmur include acquired heart valve disease, age related changes in the heart, rheumatic fever, heart conditions, high blood pressure and congenital heart defects which involve the structure of the heart. Treatment is dependant on the cause and severity of the heart murmur.
