- En Espanol
An overhead trapeze is a triangle-shaped metal bar. It hangs from a metal frame, which is attached to the headboard and footboard of the bed. You may buy or rent an overhead trapeze device from a medical supply store.
Why do I need an overhead trapeze?
You may need an overhead trapeze to help yourself move in bed. The trapeze can be used to lift yourself when you have a cast or other problems with your legs. You may need help moving in bed if you are weak, or cannot move one side of your body. A trapeze makes it easier for your caregiver to make your bed, and to help you with the bedpan. Follow your caregiver's instructions about using the overhead trapeze.
How do I attach the overhead trapeze to the bed?
The following steps may help you install the overhead trapeze:
- Get someone to help hook the heavy frame to the bed. Follow the instructions that come with the frame.
- Make sure all of the bolts on the frame are tight.
- Hang the triangle-shaped trapeze from the metal bar with the chain and bolts.
- Check the length of the chain to make sure you can reach the trapeze easily.
