How do you use clobetasol propionate on your scalp?
Although clobetasol propionate cream may be used on the scalp, clobetasol propionate foam or solution is much more convenient and better tolerated on the scalp.
To apply clobetasol propionate foam, wash your hands and invert the canister, then dispense a small amount of foam (up to a golf-ball-sized dollop as a maximum) onto a saucer (this allows you to see exactly how much you are dispensing) or directly onto the lesion, taking care to avoid the eyes. Do not dispense directly onto your hands.
If you have dispensed the foam onto a saucer, pour the foam from the saucer onto the lesion, otherwise use clean, dry fingertips to gently massage the foam into the affected area. Repeat this process until the area needing treatment is covered with a thin layer of foam.
If the foam seems too runny or the canister seems warm to the touch, place the canister under cold running tap water to cool it down.
The foam is flammable, so avoid exposure to flames or smoke during and immediately after application. Wash your hands immediately after massaging the foam into your scalp.
Once the skin condition has been treated, application should be decreased to the minimum necessary to achieve control and avoid relapse. Discontinue clobetasol if possible.
Clobetasol propionate may be used to treat eczema, psoriasis, or other steroid-sensitive rashes that occur on the scalp. Because it is classed as a super potent steroid, treatment courses should not exceed two weeks and no more than 50ml or 50mg of clobetasol propionate should be used over one week.
