For High Cholesterol "Started Rosuvastatin (Crestor) 4 months ago. Had to discontinue due to a swollen vein in my thigh that developed.(a known side effect) I had never had this problem before. It also increased my knee, leg &back pain. Mostly in the veins & muscles. The abnormal swelling in my vein was about the size of a golf ball. Very scary side effect. Told my PCP that I will not take this statin again. It's been 4 months since & the swelling of my vein is just now returning to normal. "

For High Cholesterol "My mom started taking Rovasustatin after many times complaining to her physician that she was having cramps in her legs. Apparently, statins can cause severe leg cramps. The doctor had her on several different statins before Rovasustatin. Once she started taking it, she started having back pain. She thought it was because she had an old injury that caused a bit of osteoarthritis (for which she was taking other meds). The pain started getting worse and the doctor did not change her statin, only added strong and strong paid meds. To make a long story short, my mother ended up in the emergency room in renal failure after the doctor added Tramadol and did not take the Rovasustatin away. So BE CAREFUL with this drug as it can interact with others. If you have back pain when you take it, stop and tell your doctor."

Crestor (rosuvastatin) for High Cholesterol "My prescribed dosage, which I stuck with for 5 years until I reduced it, was 1x20mg per day. This eventually resulted in severe Hip/Leg pain which greatly reduced my ability to walk. Being very obese, I did not need any decreased mobility. After a period of experimenting based on my own research, not the doctor's, I have arrived at a dosage level that prevents angina, lowers my cholesterol to a level my doctor is happy with. I am now taking 6x20 tablets p/wk. That is not a big decrease, but it seems to be enough to almost completely stop the intense pain I was suffering. I have investigated/experimented with the reduced dosage extensively, and is the "happy medium". For me, it is a good drug, if used at the right level. Without it completely, I know I would be experiencing heart/circulation problems. Prior to me making my own decisions about dosage level, my previous doctor told me that I would need a hip replacement. I have since changed doctors, and am happy with the adjusted dose."

Crestor (rosuvastatin) for High Cholesterol "Started on Crestor 5 mg a year and a half ago. It immediately lowered my cholesterol by 60 points. No problems until 4 months ago. Started having heart palpitations, mainly at night, which is when I took the Crestor. They got so severe that I would be up all night. After doing a lot of research on the internet, I found that other people had experienced this too, so I stopped the medicine and haven't had any palpitations since. My doctor seems reluctant to believe this was the cause."

Crestor (rosuvastatin) for High Cholesterol "I've been taking rosuvastatin for about two months now and had a blood test taken after five weeks on it. Overall levels went from 266 to 147, LDL 169 to 73, HDL 48 to 44, and Trigs from 250 to 150. I didn't really make much effort to change diet as I wanted to get a good idea of what the drug was doing on its own. I will make necessary diet changes and try to get the numbers down a bit more so that I can either take the medication less often or perhaps switch a lower dose. Fortunately, I'm not experiencing any adverse side effects. Seems to be a pretty effective drug if you can tolerate it."

Crestor (rosuvastatin) for High Cholesterol "I had a massive heart attack 14 years ago and was put on Lipitor. I could not handle the muscle cramps. I was then put on Crestor, again I could not handle the cramps. Years later, now, I have very high cholesterol levels and have been put on Crestor again but told to take it every second day 10 mg and to take ubiquinol a couple of hours before. This is coenzyme Q 10. I still got cramping in my fingers and shooting pains up my arms so have cut it down to 5 mg every second day and it seems to be tolerable. Seems I can handle a low-dose. Hopefully it’s better than nothing."

Urinating 8-10 night. Weight gain+ not budging. Piercing pain in left hand side of brain. Memory loss. Rash forearms. Breathlessness. The worst depression, REALLY down. One morning, shuffling to the bathroom hips, legs, back so painful, I read about the rosuvastatin side effects and decided to stop taking them. Within 3DAYS my muscles feeling BETTER. NOW-2wks- walking 6 kms, running on a mini-tramp 40 mins, swimming 90 laps of a pool -25strokes across- I'm effortlessly gliding, no cramps, enjoying experience. No memory fog, sharp twangs in the head, gone little more each day. I KNOW HAVE to be strict re: diet, but after having bad side effect I just want to stay off things."

For High Cholesterol "I had my thyroid gland destroyed. My Dr told me it will cause a false elevation with my cholesterol. Fast forward several yrs. New NP. Blood work done , high cholesterol . Was put on generic crestor. She said, it wouldn't make a difference if my thyroid was destroyed. Have genetic high cholesterol. So, I ended up on rosuvastatin. I took 10mg for 7 days. I felt like I had the flu. Hurt all over. Nausea. I decided to take 10mg 3 times a week. I'd get out of my car and actually felt stiff and limped. Told my NP and she didn't believe crestor did that. Lowered my cholesterol, ldl, and triglycerides some. So, I decreased to 5 mg 3 times a week. Same symptoms nothing changed. I feel like I'm 90 . So, I stopped it for a week. Felt pretty good. Had energy. Tried 5mg again. Nauseous, same issues. Miserable. Recheck 2 weeks. Decided to go on a low fat diet and walk 5 days a week. I can't keep taking this drug."

Crestor (rosuvastatin) for High Cholesterol "Was on Simvastin (40 mg) and within two days had severe shooting pains in knees. Starting cutting in half and pain dissipated. Told doctor I was cutting in half and reason and instead of lowering dosage, they switched me to crestor (40 mg). After about 10 doses, finger joints began to swell and pain with hip joint pain. Stopped taking. It's been 5 weeks and fingers still are painful and stiff making everyday tasks hard. Am back to cutting dosages in half. Will post if that makes a difference and my blood fat improves."

Crestor (rosuvastatin) for High Cholesterol "I tried numerous different statins 10 years ago and didn't get on with any of them so stopped them. I recently and reluctantly started taking Crestor at 5mg daily as some American physicians advocate taking it at a low dose to reduce the inflammation in your arteries which some suggest could actually be the real underlying problem. After 3 months I can say that I haven't had any real problems with it but if I do I will reduce the amount to 5mg every other day or even cut the tablets in half and take just 2.5mg. It has reduced my LDL cholesterol by 46% but not sure if having high LDL levels is actually the biggest issue as new research suggests that low HDL and high Triglycerides could be a bigger factor in CV disease. I'm going to carry on taking it reluctantly but also hopeful that it could prevent a stroke or heart attack as I have a family history of heart disease."

Crestor (rosuvastatin) for Atherosclerosis "After a couple months of taking 40 mg Crestor my blood tests showed that my liver enzymes Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) and Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) had increased by a factor of 3 or 4. My gastroenterologist (the liver doc) monitored this for a few weeks and told me to stop taking Crestor. I'm now on Praluent and it seems to work fine. My ALT and AST levels are back to normal. I don't feel foot cramps any more. Maybe most importantly is that after 6 weeks of stopping Crestor I feel mentally sharper. I didn't notice it as it happened but I think Crestor effected my ability to think with clarity. A side effect of Crestor mentioned on Mayoclinic.org is "mental fuzziness". So the question for others to consider is has Crestor or another statin effected your mental processes in the same way and if so would you be alert enough to notice it? Liver enzyme problems are rare so maybe I'm a special case, but maybe mental fuzziness is an independent side effect to watch for."

For High Cholesterol "Absolutely horrible drug. Took Crestor (5mg) for around 3 months until I figured out it was poisoning me. Started in the feet with nerve pain and edema. Moved into lower back and legs. Aggravated sciatica in my lower back and neck. Two weeks of torture. Quit 5 days ago noticed some improvements to my lower back and feet. Neck is still bad. May take days to weeks to get better. Praying no long term damage. Also experienced shoulder pain high blood pressure and headaches. Told my Dr I would rather take my chances."

Crestor (rosuvastatin) for High Cholesterol "I had triglycerides of 400 . Was put on crestor 5mg. After a month they were down to 280. By 5 weeks my legs and arms would wake me up at night with horrible aches. My feet got so bad I would get out of bed and have to hold on because the muscles were numb. Went back to the dr. take it 3x a week now. No side affects. With coupon online I pay 1.00 for 30 day supply. Shop around. Go back in 2 weeks will see if 3 times a week helps lower the t. at all."

Crestor (rosuvastatin) for High Cholesterol, Familial Heterozygous "Crestor worked wonderfully in reducing my cholesterol. It worked quickly and I was very happy with my lab results. Unfortunately, I had to stop taking Crestor because I developed severe muscle pain and aching in my legs, as I did with several of the other statin drugs."

For High Cholesterol "I’m 42, manage to exercise, eat fairly clean, and am in good overall health. I’m starting to notice that when I take this, even every other day or a half dose, my hands and feet begin to react. It usually starts in my toes. They become red, swollen, burn, and sometimes itch. The temperature of them also becomes noticeably hot. Some days the joints in my toes hurt and my feet, ankles and calves begin to swell. It also affects my fingers and hands. I’m sure this medication is the cause because I’ve stopped taking it before and my symptoms go away. From what I could find on the internet for my symptoms is a rare condition called Erythromyalgia(EM). Doctors don’t seem to know anything about it nor can I find any studies on this condition related to this drug. I hope this review doesn’t make anyone not try this medication because it could work for you; I just wanted to share my experience in case anyone else has had this happen to them as well."

For High Cholesterol "I've been taking this medication every day for the last three months since March/April, and I am experiencing recurring UTIs and itchiness all over. At first, I thought it was bug bites, but now I think it's hives because my back is also broken out. I am seeing a doctor this week because my body hurts, like muscle and bone pain, and I want to stop taking this medication immediately. I don't know if it has brought my cholesterol or triglyceride levels down, but they will have to find an alternative medication or suggest a diet for me to follow so that I can feel normal again."

Crestor (rosuvastatin) for High Cholesterol "Crestor lowered my total cholesterol dramatically, from the low 200s to the 70s. I started with 5mg, 10mg, 20mg, and finally 40mg daily, increasing monthly. I experienced diffuse lower body pain (buttocks, hamstrings, hips, upper thighs) with frequent full leg spasms by the second month but ignored it by attributing it to a tough run and/or gym workout, believing I'd get over it in a month or two like I'd done my entire life. Plus, I didn't want to be one of 'those people' complaining about statin-induced pain. By the 4th month, my doctor stated my blood Creatinine Kinase was elevated (700s). By the 6th month, my doctor told me to stop taking Crestor because my blood work came back in the high 900s, which put me in danger of Rhabdomyolysis/Kidney Failure. I now have permanently elevated blood CK levels (700s) and can no longer take any statin. The muscle spasms are occasional now, but the lower body pain remains after 18+ months off Crestor."

For High Cholesterol "Oh my goodness! I have gone from being a very active 59 year old to an almost crippled 90 year old. Within days of taking this medication I could hardly walk. That’s no exaggeration. My knees were completely broken. I hobbled. The Dr fobbed me off and said it’s Osteo Arthritis. I got knee brasses to help but it just got worse. My quality of life shattered. My darling sister asked me if I had changed medication and I said yes just 10mg of rosuvastatin.. so she read the reviews on here and oh my goodness! I stopped taking them just 3 days ago and already I can walk.! Muscles in my legs are still weak but 1000 times better.... please, if you are having these side affects don’t take it.."

Crestor (rosuvastatin) for High Cholesterol, Familial Homozygous "I am 52 and have been taking statins for 25 years. From mevecor, zocor, to Lipitor, zetia and now Crestor. I am lucky to have had no side effects but will say the Crestor has worked best at 40mg daily it helps keep it down around 230. Had a 95% blockage at age 28 and 1 stent last year. I believe statins have protected my heart over the years! My brother can not take them and had a quadruple bypass at 49. Also everyone should have a calcium scan, simple and life saving."
