Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Cold Sores "I've had outbreaks with cold sores for about 10 years now on average 1-2x year, the last few years primarily due to stress and weather changes. The main key to the success of Valtrex - as with any OTC, prescription or home remedy for cold sores/fever blisters - is timing. Take it at the first tingle. I keep Valtrex refilled and keep it handy, regardless of whether I need it. I felt a tingle and a bump the other day, took it and it has helped tremendously. It's been 48 hours now and it has progressed past a slight red bump with no pain or bleeding. I haven't had a major outbreak in over 2 years. If you are able, keep it handy. As someone who has had some dreadful experiences with cold sores, I can say it works-but timing is important."

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I have HSV 2 since about 22 and at about age 26 Valtrex became available. I have taking 1 gram daily (somewhat consistent) until about about 2.5years ago. It was great, and I didn't have one single outbreak in almost 14 years, nor did my two long term ex's get the virus. Unfortunately, I developed an allergic reaction from long term use, and can no longer tolerate it without major skin rash, major itching, hypersensitivity and also had some hair thinning. I'm trying Famvir, but so far I'm back to having outbreaks. I have gone on and off the medicine 6-7 times and within weeks have had negative symptoms, which subside within days of discontinuing. "

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Cold Sores "Suffered from cold sores since a young teen. Not only do I break out from large ones that cover half my lips but I will get them on my cheeks. Without treatment they will last around 9 days. I take valtrex at the first signs. I will take 4 pills and then another 4 12 hours later. I just had a break out and the bump was already big and itchy took my 4 pills before bed and another 4 when I woke up. Bumps were gone with no cabbing by day 2!"

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Cold Sores "I love this medicine!!! I've had cold sores since i was a kid and none of the over the counter stuff ever worked for me. I take it as soon as i feel that tingle and it's usually gone in 2 days. I recently had a bad illness and broke out with 5 blisters after a night of 103 fever. I took two pills in the morning and at night and all but one blister is gone! I would have been so miserable if i didn't have this miracle to take!"

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Herpes Zoster "I started taking Valtrex 2 days after the rash appeared, it slowed down the spread of the rash and reduced the pain. 3 days later I was feeling better but the rash took about 10 days to disappear andIi continued feeling mild pain for another week or so."

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I found out I had genital hsv 1 about a month ago. I have never seen a sore or bump of any kind down there, but experienced a burning that I compared to being cut, literally. The doctor found a lesion by the vaginal opening, that looked like little paper cuts apparently. Anyhow the 500 mg Valtrex 1× daily started helping after 2 weeks. The weird nerve-like sensations I was experiencing were all gone after 3 weeks. The only negative side effect is fatigue after I take the dose."

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Cold Sores "I have gotten cold sores/fever blisters since I was a young boy. I too have tried it all. I find that taking a small amount of Lysine and eating a Lysine rich diet, low in arginine help to prevent them, but they inevitably come around. I just had a cold sore and it was a tricky one. Sometimes they don't start tingling until it has already swollen. Once I realized it was one, I had waited a full day too late, but I was still very impressed. Thirty minutes after taking one, the tingling stopped. The next morning it was half the size. I had two that day and by the third day it was gone. I have every hope that if I take it within an hour next time, it will stop it cold. Awesome."

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Cold Sores "This drug is a miracle! I woke up with a full blown cold sore and went to the Doctor who gave me Valtrex. I was very skeptical because the cold sore was pretty big already, but 12 hours after my first dose, it looks much better and the pain is gone. Will never again waste my time or money on OTC cold sore treatments. This stuff really works!"

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I've been on Valtrex as suppression therapy for two months. After first contracting HSV2 I was getting outbreak upon outbreak with no break. It has significantly reduced my outbreaks but I am still getting them and presently not much relief. My doctor thinks it may take more time for the medication to work. But I did notice a review where this person upped their dosage while in outbreak. Will try this and see."

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Cold Sores "For those who are prescribed Valtrex who then report they have not gotten relief--make sure your next prescription is not filled with the generic version. That happened to me, I had been taking Valtrex for about 10 years with great success. Then it stopped working to my dismay. I realized the prescription bottle contained the generic version. I had to go back to my dr and explain the generic version's ineffectiveness on me and to specify NO GENERIC. I'm back on Valtrex and it works wonderfully."

For Herpes Zoster "I give this a 10 for working. BUT WILL NOT TAKE AGAIN. I took it with a few hours of the first signs of a rash. 3x's a day for 10 days. SIDE EFFECTS NOT WORTH IT. I had nightmares, extreme irritability, felt depressed, nausea and vomiting. it hit hard and fast. felt depressed before I even took my 3rd pill. I thought I'd try to stay with it and it would get better, I got worse. My very quick change in behavior started to affect loved ones. So I stopped taking it. I'd rather be in physical pain than the emotional turmoil I felt. I felt out of control of my own thoughts. last pill was taking at 6 pm. within 24 hours I felt 100 times better and happy and normal."

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Cold Sores "Valtrex works wonders. As a 20 year old college student, exam time usually involves catching a cold and high stress, and the perfect formula for cold sores. Last night I started feeling one start to pop up around 8pm. I got home around 9:30pm and popped two 1 gram pills of Valtrex. At 9:30am today I got up and took two more. The cold sore did bubble up some but never got swollen, nasty and red. Its 5:30 pm now and its almost completely gone! Without the Valtrex, I would be sporting a disgusting throbbing blister for a couple days followed by a week of waiting for a scab to heal. I'll take the 24 hour cold sore over that any day. Please, if you suffer from these painful, embarrassing cold sores, try to get a prescription."

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Cold Sores "My dentist prescribed me Valtrex for cold sores I get on my gums (and occasionally on the lips, though that is much less frequent). At the first sign of outbreak, usually a small blister or a couple of them, I take 2000mg every 12 hours for one day. Valtrex keeps it from spreading; I never get any more blisters than on first onset. They also never crack or crust over. Within about 3 days they're completely gone. I swear by this medication for intra-oral cold sores. The only side effect I seem to get is a bad headache. Definitely worth it."

For Herpes Simplex, Suppression "Okay, so I had been suffering from this condition (Herpes 2) for 16 years. Every GP I went to couldn't figure out what I had. I tried to research my symptoms online with no luck until recently. I made a self-diagnosis went to the doctor for a blood test and voila, mystery solved. Prior to figuring this out, I would have frequent outbreaks and treat it myself with Canesten cream that would clear up the condition within 3 days. However, within 2 weeks, hello back again! Arg. For me, sugar was the trigger food. I gave up sugar and the outbreaks were less frequent. Now I am taking Valtrex 500 MG and have been experiencing headaches although my symptoms have completely disappeared. I am wondering if 1/2 the dosage would work."

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Cold Sores "I can't say enough good things about it. The difference between my fever blisters with and without the pill is truly like night and day. I started taking 1 pill as soon as I see a bump or feel tingling and the symptoms are reduced by >60%. Definitely worth going to a doctor to get a prescription!"

For Varicella-Zoster "This was like a miracle drug for me. I had painful shingles on the roof of my mouth, with the pain radiating along my cheek up to my ear. I had some pain relief after just the first dose, and felt almost back to normal by the end of the week. I'm normally really sensitive to drugs and have lots of side effects, but had none with this."

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Herpes Simplex, Mucocutaneous/Immunocompromised Host "I am on a regimen program of Valtrex and I take 4 tablets on the onset of fever blister of the lips then 4 tablets 12 hours later. Then, My Doctor prescribed 1 Valtrex daily forever. It's well worth it. I have not had any break outs since my Doctor put me on this prevention program. I highly recommend Valtrex and am well satisfied with the results. "

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I've had HSV1 since birth. My whole life suffering from terrible outbreaks. My entire mouth, tounge and cheeks covered it giant cold sores. I would get about 3 single outbreaks a year and every 2 years or so have an out break of at least 5 cold sores at once. High school was hell, I was always trying to make up excuses like " an allergic reaction" or "I fell down" to avoid the accusations of "girl with herpes" finally when I was 18, it was a week before Halloween, and of course giant outbreak!! Finally I went to the doctor and she told me about Valtrex, I had seen it on TV and thought "I don't have genital herpes" and was almost embarrassed to be prescribed it, I took the Drs advice and literally within a couple days it was gone. It works!!"

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I was diagnosed with HSV 2 in February with an outbreak, one single blister (I guess I got lucky with that). I took Valtrex for 10 days and the blister went away. I started 500 mg suppression therapy immediately following my last regular dose. A month and half later (fast forward to end of March) I got another breakout. I am also using Lysine. My question is, has anyone who has been using this drug lost their sense of taste, either partially or fully. I've noticed my sense of taste has been altered. I recently got tested for COVID and it was negative. I’m trying to figure out if my partial loss of taste is from using the Valtrex. Would love to hear from you if this has happened to you."

For Herpes Zoster "Getting Shingles at 54 was not something I expected! Went to the Dr. within 48 hrs. of the appearance of the rash. No one was more shocked than I was when after 48 hrs. on this medication my rash began to dry up and fade away! Now its been 5 days on this medication (1 gram 3x day) and I can honestly say I am 90% back to myself. Shingles truly is a terrible illness but this is an awesome medicine. Side effects have been minimal."

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Cold Sores "I'm 24 years old as a young female a cold sore was terror. I have always gotten them on and off throughout out the year and more so in the winter. As I got older stress and worry would trigger a cold sore and when I thought I had it healed another would come up right next to it. I tried everything OTC and anything to dry it out. Needless to say I was torturing myself until I mentioned to my Dr that I get them under stress and once one healed another came along. He suggested Valtrex 500 mg and to take one tablet everyday! I haven't had a cold sore since. And I've had a ton of stress since. My Dr is amazing and this is a miracle medication. "

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Cold Sores "I am so happy I found this! Or rather, found a doctor that prescribed it. It’s a Miracle drug! I get probably 4-5 cold sores a year particularly when I’m extra stressed which is always the worst time for a cold sore. I never feel them coming the night before. I always wake up with several blisters that formed overnight. Anyway, I immediately take 2 grams of Valtrex (I always have it on hand! I get my prescription refilled immediately after I use it in prep for the next one). By mid afternoon, it’s stopped itching. I take 2 more grams before bed. The next morning it’s grown a little but not bad. 2 more grams that second morning. By the afternoon of the second day, the blisters are mostly gone and only slight scabs remain. I’m lucky that mine are in the corner of my mouth. You can’t even see it by the second afternoon. I then reduce to 1 gram morning and night for a week just to be sure it’s totally gone (I’ve had them come back!)"

Valtrex (valacyclovir) for Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I have MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivities) and had suffered with outbreaks for years (1/month). Because of MCS, my body can turn a medication into a poison, so I was always too afraid to seek a remedy. When outbreaks became too frequent, I caved in under duress. My Gyno prescribed Valtrex (not the generic) because the generics are inconsistent. I took one 500mg pill per day. This medication rocks! I took it for almost 7 years and did not have one single breakout and my body did not have any negative reactions to it!!! About 1.5 years ago, I stopped taking it because I couldn't afford it! Even though insurance covered a small portion of it. And 1.5 years later I'm having a breakout. I wiill go back to daily dose."
