Can you take Tresiba twice a day?
Tresiba (insulin degludec) is a long-acting insulin that is given once a day, it is not given twice a day.
Once injected Tresiba takes several hours to start working and continues to work evenly over 24 hours, to lower high blood sugar levels in diabetic patients. Because the effect of Tresiba lasts 24 hours it only needs to be given once daily.
Other long acting insulins are:
- insulin glargine (Basaglar)
- insulin glargine (Lantus)
- insulin detemir (Levemir)
- insulin glargine (Toujeo)
There is variation in the way different formulations of the long acting insulins work, even between insulins with the same name eg: insulin glargine, therefore they are not interchangeable and different brands should not be substituted.
