Risperdal (risperidone) "This drug is like all antipsychotics, it's a crime ! And more than that they forgot to label one of the worst side effect of it which is apnea (difficulty breathing), that's because they never tried one pill ! because every time they do RCTs for these types of drugs, most of the subjects they leave early before continuing the studies !"

Risperdal (risperidone) "This drug did not react well with my body chemistry, but I didn't have any delusions on it or for 4 years afterward. I gained over 120 lbs in a year and a few months on it. I slept about 14 hours a day. It made me apathetic, not a normal trait for me. I just didn't care about things. I stopped having my period and developed a lot of symptoms of metabolic syndrome. Oh, I had major carb cravings, like for fast food pizza, that I never usually have. I didn't feel like myself. I have been diagnosed with different things but believe I have major depression with psychotic features."

Risperdal (risperidone) "This medicine helps with my schizophrenia, calms me down but that's about it. But the worst things about it are the freaking side effects! Look I took this medicine in first grade for irritability, took it again in middle school now I'm 20 and started back up again a few months ago..it makes me soooooo sleepy that I'm falling into things, I get severe panic attacks and I'm hungry as hell hence why I gained 11 lbs. Oh and I have this funny, unbearable feeling in my right leg and it's sooo uncomfortable omg! But on the other hand its not as bad as latuda or haldol but its worth it i guess"

"Risperidone is not worth the overall sadness it caused me. I am always fighting with my weight and struggle as I have no motivation and feel lazy and just struggle with basic stuff. I still see and hear things that are not there and my body aches all the time."

"Risperidone works really great for controlling my schizophrenia. I have to take 4 mg twice a day. However, and this is big, I immediately gained 38 lbs and my blood pressure went from normal to 168/98 and my testosterone bottomed out at 169. Now I take telmisartan for blood pressure and use patches for testosterone. I wouldn't take this if it were entirely up to me. My psychiatrist doesn't want to change my meds because of how well the risperidone controls my symptoms and the high dose I'm having to take since he doesn't feel that any other meds will work as well."

Risperdal (risperidone) "I find it helps in terms of what I wanted with the voices and all but the side effects make me very drowsy and tired and I can barely muster the energy to do anything in my day. My moods been pretty low or up and down too. I find myself to still have a slight paranoia of others. Even when I first starting the meds the first few times I believed I was being poisoned but I usually felt like everyone offering me drinks or food were trying to harm me so not really anything new there. That part has calmed down a fair bit. I hope one day they can find a way to completely rid me of this so I don't have to rely on medications all the time cause I sometimes forget to take them or I can't find them on occasion. I'm glad I'm back on them though after I was initially told by the mental hospital that I'm not to have them anymore which mucked me up. I hope I'm not forced to stop again cause this is honestly my peace."

Risperdal Consta (risperidone) "I believe after taking this, I stopping thinking well. I took it as an injection. It caused some sort of anxiety and made me think of my past. It cleared up some parts of thinking but after the Dr. prescribed this, I can't tell if it left permanent damage."

"Avoid at all costs. I ended up with some brain damage, less emotions and a lowered sex drive. Terrible medication. Don't let any doctor prescribe anything for your brain. You only have 1 brain and it's a risk doing that to begin with. It probably made my episodes worse at one point."

"The problem with this medicine is that while it is supposed to treat depression and works wonders to remove hallucinations and unwanted thoughts (some, at least), it makes one so tired and lazy that one becomes depressed in the process of being so tired! This is truly a conundrum. It made me extremely demotivated as I lost all interest in movies, exercise and study. Yes, the benefits of Risperidone are immense but I would not go so far as to say that they outweigh the side effects. The side effects are lethal. They hit right at the body and mind, and that is a big problem. Not to mention the weight gain that occurs because of inactivity and excess sleep. I find it really hard to shave in the morning! My mornings are the worst. I just can't get out of bed. Yes, it makes one sleep VERY well. There is no doubt about that, yet it is the TIREDNESS which is a big problem. I don't know why drug companies can't figure out a way to make a medicine that does not have such side effects."

"Sandoz is great because I quit to get the weird anxiety after being on Sandoz and I had with others resperidone brands. Let me explain myself. I had a type of anxiety with other risperidone brands. At times I felt like to repeat words what others said in conversations. I become a weird person. One time when I didn't say good morning to a neigbour outhside nextdoor to me and I had obsessive anxiety about this event and went to the neigbour's home and apologize. Thank godness for Sandoz. My theory is that there's additional rubbish in other brands. "

"I am now thinking that after 15 years of being on Risperidone it might actually be the cause of all my weight gain, dont get me wrong I always had a weight problem before the pills but thinking about it I have gone from 120kg to now a whooping 240kg. There must be some hope for me I will try a high protein diet. It's like I always have the munchies and my mouth always craves food I am on 2mg a day if that helps."

Risperdal (risperidone) "This was the medication. I grew painful chest feelings, I still pace all day, my libido made me feel asexual and more. It kept me just laying on the floor in anxious depressive pain, waiting for a minute to get up. I over ate on this drug and at the time it was the only medication. I spent almost four years laying down because I didn't think another medicine I could afford will be out. I was so worried about trying seroquel however due to the weight gain diabetes thing, but since I've stopped monitoring my weight (which I believe more doctors should provide therapy for the weight gain and body image issues), and I got on Seroquel things are better. At the time seroquel was thought to be not as strong, we will see if it holds up but much better medications have come out. Also I think Risperdal prolonged a mood problem for me that might be why I spent 3 years in bed waiting for it to improve. When they threaten the Invega shot I get worried because forcing this med to last long"

Risperdal (risperidone) "19 years old, using 2 ml instead of 3 1/2ml and actually 4 ml was initially prescribed by a psychiatrist. It was because I was hearing voices and was paranoid and smoking marijuana almost every day for a period of 6 months. I got as side effects stiffness, spasms, trembling, increase in saliva, decrease in sexual ability. I have been taking now 1 pill every other day until I don't take it anymore since the doctor said that I had to take it at least for a year without smoking to find out if the problem goes away. I'm looking for another pill to control the these symptoms and I am not smoking or hearing voices anymore. Read all the comments but I do not constipate or gain weight. Since I lowered the dose I am more sociable, smile and confident but the spams worry me since they happen like 3 or 4 times a day."

"Risperidone is a horrible drug. It has affected my energy levels and leaves me feeling tired and groggy, my mood has changed and I no longer feel happy and I have gained a considerable amount of weight. I have gone from getting up early to go for a run or walk to being lazy and having to drag myself out of bed. Although the drug has helped with my hallucinations and delusions, the cost is too high. My doctor wants me to continue taking the medication for another year and 1.5 months, which I dread."

Risperdal Consta (risperidone) "Risperdal Consta is pretty good. I've been on it for a year and two months and I think it's much better than Invega sustenna by far. Risperdal makes me calm, focused, and maybe even energized but in a very in control of myself way."

"I was not psychotic when I was put on this medication. I had been hospitalized because an abusive person living in the same house as I was didn't want to admit what they had done to me. I was maybe mildly paranoid but only because I was actually enduring some strange kind of abuse that had my senses heightened. The people who embarrassingly held the title of doctor at this hospital were incredibly rude about my abuse claims and refused to let me out of the hospital until I took this medication. I did not have audible hallucinations whatsoever until after taking this medication, and in the months since starting it the voices have completely ruined my life. Before taking it. I was at a point where I might have been able to recover and improve my life but now I'm devastated and can't get the voices to stop unless I can manage to distract myself from them. The voices are cruel and have lied a lot, but have also caused me to do things that got me in trouble and have driven me to self harm."

"I had a period of psychosis and I started taking resperidone last march and I haven't had any relapses. I have gained a couple of pounds, I am worried that I also feel emotionally flat. Don't know if I should try 1 mg instead of 2mg or eventually ween off out of fear of a horrible relapse that would ruin everything. I felt anxiety increase at doses higher up to 6 mg. Still suffer from anxiety and worry over basically everything."

"I've come to say that this medicine destroyed my life. When I had just turned 12 I was put on this medication for early onset paranoid schizophrenia. When I started the medication I weighed 110 pounds I loved my body and had so much confidence in that aspect.... within 6 months on the medication I hit 180 and at age 13 I weighed 310 pounds I had developed an eating disorder I'm 16 now and have lost almost 100 pounds. But am still not where I was at 12 even though I'm the same height. I honestly don't remember very much from when I was on the medication but according to my family my speech was slurred, I couldn't stay awake and even often slept from 8pm at night until 2:00 the next afternoon. Only waking up to take my morning dose and go back to bed. I developed tics when I was awake and I still rock back and forth constantly Please PLEASE KEEP YOUR ADOLESCENT CHILDREN OFF THIS MEDICATION"

"I was on Risperidone for 5 weeks, the first 2 weeks were a struggle but by the end of the month it had really tackled my anxiety and hallucinations. It did make my paranoia really bad for a week but apart from that I was starting to feel okay again. I had to stop as I started to lactate and as a 20 year old I found it quite distressing so I was swapped to aripiprazole, I hope this one works as well as risperidone did!"

"I have been on 4mg of risperidone for about 10 years and have felt stable and normal for a long time. I also use Alprazolam or Xanax for my anxiety disorder which keeps my mood and thoughts happy and very social. Nothing else has worked I've tried Zoloft which was terrible for me, now I am trying Abilify will tell you how it goes with that but I always fall back to Risperidone!"

"I was diagnosed with schizophrenia 11 years ago. Symptoms completely recovered within 2 weeks: flat emotional affect, low energy, the feeling of the brain swelling, tactile hallucinations, poor appetite, irritability, paranoia, delusions, and an overdrive in fight or flight response. Symptoms greatly improved to a functional level within 1-2 months: auditory hallucinations, visual hallucinations, cognitive impairment, and poor memory. 1mg both as a teenager and as an adult. I have been able to function again. Also, my work and social life has recovered. I have had no negative side effects besides minor drowsiness and sedation for the first couple of days taking the medication."

"I started with four mg of risperdal, it went up to 7 mg per day, with those seven pills I don't feel like me anymore, none of the ideas or thoughts are there when I take them, but I also lack motivation, I'm just alive but not living. It's been reduced over the past 2 years, now I take 3 mg of risperdal with 2 antidepressants. I tried several antidepressants with them but I still lack interest in life, I know its not the same for everyone, but in my experience for those with depression and or have tried to kill themselves at least it will keep those thoughts as that, just thoughts"
