For Anxiety "I have suffered from anxiety and SEVERE blushing of the face & neck/chest for decades. I thought it was a life long curse, & that I just had to look like a complete fool whenever I was in public speaking situations, interviews, stressful interactions, etc. It was horrible! I FINALLY stumbled upon a forum about propranolol for anxiety & blushing. I would try anything at this point, and so thankful I did. It is literally the only thing that has EVER worked for me. 40mg propranolol immediate release tablets 2x per day (AM & PM) and I am a new person, there is occasional blushing and it's not an 100% cure-all, but NOTHING like the bright red tomato/hive look that I used to have when anxious. it has been a life-changer for me, especially since my job requires public speaking. I've gained about 5 pounds, and also have to sometimes monitor my heart rate to make sure it's not too low, which isn't ideal, but I will take that over the awful circumstances I had to deal with for years!!! Highly recommend!"

For Anxiety "Anxiety/panic attacks for a year or so. Fear of the fear made my brain expect an episode in virtually every situation with friends/family/strangers, you name it. 80mg SR stopped my physical symptoms - shaking, tingling fingers, heart pumping, which in turn stopped my brain from racing and expecting the attack. Life changer. Thank you so much. I'm back!"

For Performance Anxiety "I used to run off stage or start crying on stage due to extreme fear of public speaking. My voice trembled so terribly that my nickname was baa baa sheep. I suffered from this phobia for over thirty years and I took propranolol for the first time and I was a stunner during my presentation. Thank you to whoever created this medication."

For Performance Anxiety "It finally dawned on me that others might suffer my same public speaking 'fight or flight' response. The uncontrollable shaking uncontrollably, heart racing as my turn to speak neared, panic attacks caused me to not speak and forgo many career advancing opportunities. I overprepared, tried public speaking classes, still the shakes and heart race caused me to lose my train of thought, cut myself short and generally look like an idiot. I finally searched online and found information on propranolol and Xanax. Frankly, Xanax just made me tired. I tried propranolol immediately prior to having to speak, and WOW. I waited for the heart race and blood rush, nothing. I was shocked and was able to speak like any normal person. Miracle!"

For Performance Anxiety "So I have a huge fear of public speaking. In any setting. I have avoided these completely until recently. It was in the form of adrenaline rush, fast heart rate, tunnel vision, shaky voice.. pure panic. I've been trying to get more comfortable in these situations, so I joined Toastmasters for public speaking improvement (Highly recommend). But, I still needed that extra bit of confidence so my dr prescribed Propranolol (10mg) to be taken before the event. I had my first ever speech to give at toastmasters, which was really worrying me, so I took a 10mg first thing in the morning to help with the nerves that build during the day, then 10mg 90mins before, then 10mg 20mins before the speech (at 7:20PM). I actually really enjoyed the speech, absolutely no fear or symptoms and I got to work on being a better public speaker, rather than focusing on not dying and failing. I've read people taking doses up to 160mg, for me that was too much to play with."

For Performance Anxiety "I never leave reviews but the contribution of this thread and propranolol deserves a special mention. I have struggled all my life with severe public speaking anxiety. When you are young you are told it will get easier and you live in hope but for me it only got worse, particularly with work pressures and an increasing feeling of inadequacy. During a recent presentation at work I could not even speak, pounding heart, quivering voice, shaking...you know the symptoms! And then the shame and feeling of humiliation which seems to stay with you forever. I've meditated, read countless psychology books, therapy and nothing ever worked. I came across this thread and although skeptical I decided to give it a go and Oh my god! I could not believe how calm I was in that presentation..I tried it again a couple of times for presentations and it worked every single time without fail. 40 mg an hour before and thats it. Like many of you, I wish I'd known about this sooner. Thank you science!"

For Performance Anxiety "Unbelievable. Suffered for years with performance anxiety and my current job meant I had to do more and more meetings. It got to the point that I was thinking I'd have to leave my job or throw myself off a bridge to escape. As a last resort, I went to the doctor hoping to try beta blockers - I got these thinking they might help a bit. THEY TOTALLY CURED ME. It was like a miracle - I was even cracking jokes and arriving first at meetings, whereas before I'd hidden in toilets. Only my 1st week, don't know what the future holds but for now I'll just celebrate the relief this has provided."

For Panic Disorder "I have had panic disorder my entire life, and racing heart never used to be one of my symptoms. About 23 years ago, when my mom was in the hospital. I had a horrible tachycardia attack with my heart racing over 240 bpm. I was in the hospital visiting my mom at the time, and they wrote it off as anxiety related. I have had benign tachycardia as a symptom ever since. When I'm anxious, my heart races and I cannot do anything. Getting on propranolol was the number one best thing I have done. I am also on a very low dose of xanax (two to three quarter mg's per day). I take three to four 10 mg tablets of propranolol, more as needed. If I have something difficult to do, or have to drive far I need more. But if my heart isn't racing, then I feel more comfortable doing things. If I didn't have it, I would be completely housebound agoraphobic like I was when I was 18."

For Anxiety "This is an absolute miracle drug for anyone suffering from extreme blushing. For me, it happens during any stressful situation and it’s completely debilitating. In case it’s psychosomatic, I’ve tried CBT, general therapy and hypnotism but nothing worked. I even remember reading about a teenager who committed suicide because of this and people who have risky surgeries to correct it. At work, my blushing interfered with all my meetings, presentations and interactions with my colleagues. People frequently asked me if I needed an ambulance due to an allergic reaction or a panic attack. I eventually gave up my public facing career and struggled at interviews for more solitary and lower paying positions. Finally a doctor prescribed me this medication and I no longer experience ANY blushing whatsoever. It’s so sad that this could have saved that boy’s life if it had only been prescribed to him... I only take 5-10 mg to keep my blushing at bay."

For Panic Disorder "This medicine I have called my “miracle pill.” I had suffered from severe social anxiety for years and also Benign Essential Tremors. The only word I could think of when I’d have an anxiety attack was “sensory overload,” that’s what came to mind when I’d be asked what it felt like. My tremors had also started to get noticeable to where my body shook from my head to feet. I literally felt like a freak. My social anxiety got so bad that I went to self-medicating with street drugs, which actually only made my life worse. I ended up in drug rehab about 2 hours from my home, and was referred to this clinic for my tremors, and that’s when my entire life changed. I was seen by a Nurse Practitioner who prescribed me Propranolol, she said this medicine is gonna help me AND WOW does it help!!! My life has gotten better ever since that day. I am a server at a restaurant, never ever did I see myself working with the public and here I am 5 days a week!!!"

For Anxiety "I started having anxiety attacks a year and a half ago due to stress at work and lifelong traumas that just built up. I started out having tachycardia, chest pain, dizziness, and a fear of death. The first panic attack was isolated but gradually they started increasing in frequency to once a day. I started out on benzodiazepines while trying to get stable on SSRI. The benzos were good but of course, my body was starting to become dependent on it, even at taking the smallest dose for more than 2 weeks. Propranolol was introduced to me and was a better fit since it blocks the adrenaline surge and maintains a normal heart rate which really helps decrease my anxiety. I had to take a long time off work but now have been back to work for the last year as of this month. My advice is to know that it's not a one size fits all thing. It takes time to find a routine that works for you to manage this beast. Exercise, yoga, sunlight, prayer, and therapy have made a difference as well."

For Migraine Prevention "I used to get extremely severe migraines which affected my life and also my family's as I needed to go to bed for 1-2 days, vomiting constantly. I started taking propranolol 10 years ago and have not had any migraines since. My quality of life is now 'normal' and I don't worry about ruining my family's life anymore. I have missed so many important days in the past due to migraines. This drug has literally changed my life!"

For Panic Disorder "I've tried Buspar, Xanax, Ativan, various antidepressants, antipsychotics, and even cyclobenzaprine (muscle relaxant). Propranolol (20mg daily) has been the best medication of ALL of these for generalized anxiety. No 'swimming head', no dry mouth, no ravenous hunger... almost no side effects, except I feel a bit slow before my morning shower. Propranolol gives a nice 'body calm' - heart rate steady, no sweating palms, and no jittery feeling. I now use low doses of Propranolol and Imipramine for generalized anxiety and panic, and Lamotrigine for cyclothymia, and (rarely) Ativan. I feel like a new man! They also use Propranolol to treat PTSD patients... it blocks the 'fight/flight' reaction and allows processing of trauma."

For Anxiety "I have severe anxiety, depression and bipolar and been on a lot of different medications. Have been on Benzos that’s lasted several weeks and lost their effect. Valium was the only Benzo that I could take consistently without me becoming tolerant but I didn’t want to become addicted to a benzo because of my addictive personality. My doctor recommended propranolol for my anxiety because my anxiety level is constantly a 10 on scale and man has it made a difference for the good. I’m on 40mg twice a day and my anxiety level has came down tremendously."

For Arrhythmia "Have been taking 120mg propranolol a day for over a year now. Was prescribed because my heart palpitations suddenly got much much worse, out of the blue, to the point I couldn't function. Propranolol has calmed the horrible, constant palpitations, however I still get flutters fairly regularly, although on a bad day I can have them off and on all day. But it's definitely improved the palps, just hasn't wiped them out completely. But overall, propranolol does help calm the heart flutters. Side effects I've noticed? not sure. But I seem to tolerate propranolol better than I did Metroprolol, which made me feel nauseous. Propranolol doesn't do this to me. So if you're like me and you're reading up on here because you're a big baby afraid to take a new med, please don't worry about this one unless you already have low blood pressure as the drug can lower your blood pressure. But apart from that, imo, you'll be okay."

For Anxiety "This is only my 2nd day of taking this wonderful drug.. I've had horrendous anxiety. I've been taking Xanax but it never has given me the immediate relief this medication has. Right now I'm on 20mg once a day.. The Dr said we can increase after we see if it works. I would love to be able to get off the Xanax all together and just take this. I don't feel jittery, my hands don't shake and I feel an inner calmness.. I've been taking it at night when I go to bed. For the first time in I don't know how long I was able to sleep 6 hrs straight. Usually it's only 3-4 and that's with the help if a sleeping pill.. So going to give it a little while longer and ask for an increase in this medication and to be weaned off of the Xanax."

For Migraine Prevention "After trying a ton of different medications and having no luck, my doctor finally decided to put me on propranolol. After trying so many meds with no luck, I didn't have much hope. I have been on this medication for 3 days now and I am ECSTATIC! I am taking 40mg twice a day (once in the morning and once at night). I used to wake up with headaches and go to bed with headaches and for these 3 days I have not had ANY pain! I usually have headaches at least 4-5 days a week and for me to wake up with no pain and go to bed with no pain feels so amazing. I didn't get any dizziness or any side effects at all so far. Although it's only been 3 days so far, I can tell it's made a huge difference already."

For Anxiety "I started taking propranolol 10mg last week. For the last 10 years I've been suffering from anxiety and depression but never asked for help as I didn't want it getting noted on my file. I was put on propranolol 10mg for my anxiety which I thought would never go away - the overthinking the racing heart etc. Well this tablet was a life saver (literally). My confidence has came back, I don't get anxious anymore, it really is a miracle drug. I am going continue to take this twice a day 10mg in the morning and 10mg at 17.00pm. I would rate this medication 10 stars but it makes you tired throughout the day which sucks. Anyone with anxeity should 100% try this its amazing."

For Anxiety "My anxiety is so bad whenever I speak publicly in a presentation or in a meeting I can feel my heart beating in my ears to the point of where I can't hear my own voice. Other symptoms are involuntary spasms in my face, shaky hands and voice, dry mouth, red face and brain feeling clogged. I took 10 mg reluctantly because I thought it wouldn't help just before a meeting but I was sailing through with confidence, greeting people, looking people in the eyes when I talked to them and I was composed. The meeting, which usually feel very long, was a breeze and I got all my points across. I had gotten so bad I was waiting for when the adrenaline rush would take over my body with the inevitable fast heart beat, but it never came. My heart stayed at a normal rate and with the symptoms gone I could focus on my work. This medication is good for people with performance anxiety and relieving physical symptoms only."

For Panic Disorder "My panic disorder often works this way. I will just be sitting there and all of a sudden I feel a surge of adrenaline. My brain starts worrying about the physical response to a surge of adrenaline which sets up a feedback loop during which my mind accentuates the physical response which heightens the mental fear which worsens the physical response and so on. Propranolol does a very good job of blunting that type of attack in my case since there is nothing going on in my head to cause panic except for what is going on in my body. It's not quite Xanax which doctors are increasingly unwilling to prescribe but it really does work to greatly lessen the physical component of a panic attack."

For Migraine Prevention "I have been on propranolol since mid-January 2013. If I remember correctly, it began working within a few weeks. I am on 80mg (can't remember if I worked up to that or not, was in rehab at the time so not everything is crystal clear) and have found that my daily headaches have pretty much completely disappeared. I read that the normal dose is between 80 and 240mg, but I obviously want to be on as little as possible, especially considering possible side effects. But 80mg works for me. Rarely I get one and ibuprofen is enough to relieve it. This medicine was truly life-changing for me. I have had chronic headaches from the age of 9! Point being, if you are considering this medication to help prevent headaches, I highly recommend you try it."
