For Anesthesia "I had a procedure yesterday where I was given Propofol with Lidicane. I don't know if this is a side effect but when I went in for the test I was fine. No s/s of a cold. When I awoke I was sneezing, had a runny nose, watery eyes that burned when the light hit them. It was s/s of a sever cold. I took Bendryl last night and was better today but still had it. I have taken Sudafed and it seems to help. Side effect of the med???? I don't know."

For Anesthesia "First colonoscopy at age 56. Doctor had explained during consult I would be given propofol to induce anesthesia. I found it hilarious that just before I was induced by the anesthesiologist, they were playing Michael Jacksons "You wanna be trying something" over the PA in the ceiling (Michael Jackson died from propofol). Anyway, anesthesiologist pumped in the propofol and in under 10 secs I was gone. I felt the drug acting on my brain just before I went under and said " here it comes", and then I was totally out. Woke up in recovery instantly fully awake but felt just slightly fuzzy. Was unsteady on my feet for about 5 mins. That's it. No bad side effects. The prep was not bad at all. Colonoscopy is NO BIG DEAL at all."

Diprivan (propofol) for Anesthesia "Diprivan was successfully used to anesthetize me for a minor procedure lasting 5-10 minutes. It worked beautifully. I don't remember a thing and "waking up" was actually pleasant. No side effects - it wore off quickly and I was running errands within hours. (Probably shouldn't have, but I was able to). I would recommend this drug to my friends."

For Anesthesia "I had a propofol infusion for a 40 minute operation today and had no problems whatsoever. Like many "reviewers" here, it was my first time undergoing general anesthesia and I was quite nervous as I did not know what to expect. However, if I knew beforehand what I know now, I would not have worried a single bit. Once the line was in and the infusion began, the doctor said I would start to feel sleepy soon and within 10 seconds I was asleep. There was no discomfort or unpleasant side effects. I woke up feeling happy and positive, just thirsty and slightly groggy, which passed quickly. Within 30 mins I was dressed and I left the hospital within an hour. I have felt relaxed all day. Marvellous medicine and experience, I will not worry next time!"

Diprivan (propofol) for Anesthesia "I am a fifty year old female getting a colonoscopy for the very first time and the the doctors used this drug to "put me under" and it was the greatest feeling ever. This is the way to go for all needing to get this procedure done!!!"

For Anesthesia "I had propofol as an anesthesic for a colonoscopy. I had increased secretions, a laryngospasm, and a dangerously high heart rate. I had to have an oral airway inserted, be suctioned, and administered Robinol for secretions. I had "bit" my upper lip and my tongue. My mouth was dry, my neck was stiff, my ears ached, my jaw was sore and bruised, (because someone had to open my airway.) I am still sore after 4 days, something went horribly wrong. I am still coughing!"

For Anesthesia "I had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy on May 18 and Propofol was used. Like many other comments on here, you are out in seconds. No pain or discomfort. You wake up feeling s little groggy, but that's all. No need to be frightened of any procedure if you are being put under with this drug."

For Anesthesia "I was given propofol IV prior to a colonoscopy procedure. I was out within seconds of administration of the medicine. The next thing I remember is half an hour later being told that all the procedure has finished. I had no nausea, or other side effects. I ordered a taxi and went straight to the office, where I worked for the rest of the day."

Diprivan (propofol) for Anesthesia "I was given Diprivan as an anesthetic during a recent breast lumpectomy. Apart from some post-anesthetic shivering in recovery (nurses gave me a pre-warmed blanket which worked well) I had absolutely no side effects. Woke feeling bright, alert and hungry. My anethestist agreed it is her anesthetic of choice."

For Anesthesia "I am 72. Had my 5th colonoscopy 2 days ago. Before, I always had Versed, which was wonderful. With propofol, I was out immediately, but awoke feeling disoriented and very scared, like coming out of a deep sleep when the phone rings. Got home and cried for an hour over nothing.Slept all day. 2 days later still having trouble concentrating and feel very tired and out of it, unfocused. Never again."

For Anesthesia "I was scared to death of being put to sleep, as I never been put under before, the anesthesiologist explained he was going to administer the drug now, he knew I was nervous so he said take a deep breath, count backwards from 20 to myself or out loud to give everyone something to laugh about, that made me chuckle, I counted 20,19,18 and that's the last thing I remember! It literally felt like seconds and I was opening my eyes in recovery, feeling very relaxed, I was amazed. I am no longer afraid, and I think this is a very wonderful drug, it works extremely fast, and leaves no unpleasant side effects."

Diprivan (propofol) for Anesthesia "I recently went under the knife for gross in my nasal pharynx. The anesthesiologist went through all of my allergy list and propofol was one of them gas was another. I told him if anything is on the list that he wanted to use he couldn’t because I was severely allergic to them. He asked me what kind of allergies I had with them and I told him they cause seizures they cause tremors they make me throw up and I can’t eat or drink for days on end . It causes depression and causes many aspects to where I don’t want to relive. I am now writing up a case history for the administration of surgical anesthesiologists. Most anesthesiologist are supposed to go by your allergy sheet I’ve had two instances to where they did not. I am tired of having surgeries if I have to have another one I will never have another one. I have now had multiple blood tests because of bacterial contamination and blood poisoning from this medication it has caused me nothing but pain"

For Anesthesia "Had a colonoscopy 9 days ago. Had one 20 years ago with Versed/Fentanyl with no problem. This time the Dr said they only use Propofol. I fell asleep quickly and had no memory of the procedure....but I had to be suctioned for excess drooling and coughing while I was under. My throat felt like I had eaten a razor blade. I was woozy, woobly and felt like I couldn't think right for 4 days. I had and still have deep laryngitis and low grade temp. I feel awful. Will not use Propofol again."

For Anesthesia "I am 28 years old, was given propofol for a colonoscopy. I was extremely nervous before the procedure because I had a horrible experience with sedation, apparently I cannot be sedated, I was wide awake. So I was scared this would be the same, I was wrong. I remember the medicine being put in my IV, my arm started burning a little, and the next thing I knew I was waking up and the nurse saying you're all done! Immediately I was awake, no grogginess or side effects. I had a snack and soda and was ready to leave. I felt fine the rest of the day. I am having an EGD for GERD symptoms today, getting propofol again so not too worried."

Diprivan (propofol) for Anesthesia "we used regularly in ICU, very few side effects, patients fell asleep quickly & returned to alertness quickly. Dosage needs varied between patients. We also used for what is called 'conscious sedation' for out patient procedures. Again dosage needs do vary between people and it is not just height and weight. It takes an experienced practitioner to use in conscious sedation. I worked in the ICU for 7 years. I had for upper endoscopy w/o side effects during or after procedure."

For Anesthesia "I don't usually post on reviews, but felt I should as I have read every review on this site, as I was so very very afraid of having a Gastroscopy under propofol. I had my procedure this morning, and can honestly say I stressed myself out about nothing at all.... The experience of being sedated my by propofol was very pleasant. I was wheeled into the room, asked to lie on my side, and the cannula was put into my hand (worst bit) the anaesthetist chatted to me about where I worked, and I said “ have you already given me something because you have two heads” he laughed, and that was the last I know about it. I woke up in recovery from a dream I was having, and after 20 mins was having a cup of tea and a biscuit. I'm now home and just fine, if a little tired. I can honestly say I won't fear having a sedation ever again! So anyone who is worried, please try not to, I'm a huge coward and it was easy :)"

For Anesthesia "I had propofol for a colonoscopy and EGD. I was told afterwards that I was hard to sedate and was given additional dosage. I had no recollection of getting dressed after the procedure and felt I was "not right" for over 24hrs afterward. I had 2 previous procedures using different medication with no problems."

For Anesthesia "I had an endoscopic procedure yesterday and they used Propofol instead of Versed . I am 61 years old and was told of a slight sting . I had about 60 seconds (long seconds) of a feeling like my hand was set on fire. I will never let anyone use this drug on me again. I'm 61 and healthy and can't imagine if I was a frail little old lady or man given this drug . The pain was horrific."

For Anesthesia "I had my first colonoscopy yesterday and was really anxious about the sedation. I've had conscious sedation before and was ALWAYS aware of the procedure being performed. Not so with Propofol. I was out in about 5 seconds. Next thing I knew, I was in recovery. I felt pretty stoned for an hour or so afterwards, but it wasn't unpleasant!"

For Anesthesia "I have had a few "twillight" surgeries and this was my first time having Propofol. I can honestly say it is the BEST anesthetic I have ever had. It is literally like a light switch on/off. I was given a sedative before hand because I have bad anxiety and then was wheeled into surgery. I was given the Propofol and within 30 seconds was gone and the next time I knew I heard a nurse calling my name in recovery giving me water. I had no nausea and I felt a little buzzed the next day but I could function. I wasn't sleepy or groggy at all."

For Anesthesia "Received this horrible stuff for my upper endoscopy. Made my heart race for two days, coughed so much when I came too and afterword for about 10 minutes, made chest sore, made me a chatterbox and I'm usually a quite person....wasn't sleepy, I went to bed, deep sleep, woke up to heart racing and jittery feeling from this medicine, caused shallow breathing too. It will never pipe through my veins again! I had to drink and drink water to get this junk out of my system. Horrible poison!"

For Anesthesia "I just had my second screening colonoscopy. Due to a family history of colon cancer, my first screening was at age 40. For that procedure, I was given Versed/Demerol, which did not work well for me. It caused agitation, foggy thoughts, prolonged amnesia, and depression that lasted a couple of weeks. This time, using propofol, it was a night-and-day difference. I went out in just 5-10 seconds after injection, and I woke up quickly and smoothly. I have full memory of the recovery room, speaking with the doctor afterward, etc. I took it easy the rest of the day, but I felt fine, with no lingering amnesia or foggy-headedness. For me, it will be propofol only from now on!"

For Anesthesia "I had colonoscopy done with propofol.I am a physician who previously had a colonoscopy with Versed and did great. I asked not to use propofol,but got persuaded into going along with it.It was a nightmare as I awoke with projectile vomiting,severe abdominal pain and distention even though my colonoscopy was totally normal.I have been sick for days.I recently read an article in consumer reports about propofol being used excessively and unnecessarily in colonoscopies and they are correct.There are major risks with this drug even after the fact.These are unnecessary risks when one can use conscious sedation with Versed and not have these side effects or risks.Propofol is being used to speed the turnover in the recovery room....not for safety."

For Anesthesia "Propofol given for colonoscopy. Awoke quickly and was alert and feeling fine within minutes after the procedure. On the way home I started sneezing. I have a very runny nose and have been sneezing for the past 24 hours. No other signs of a cold. Was glad to see some others have reported a similar response. I can't find anything from the medical profession that confirms my connection with the medicine and the side effect."

For Anesthesia "Have had some horrible experiences with anesthesia but my last 3 experiences with propofol was excellent. Woke up clear headed, no nausea. It's been used for my last 2 colonoscopies and a gall bladder surgery. Has really alleviated my anxiety over procedures, surgery."
