"I started taking losartan for high blood pressure 14 years ago. One side effect of losartan is that it increases risk of uric acid kidney stones. In the next four years I had 8 kidney stones, 2 of which were greater than 5 mm in diameter which required trips to the hospital. Then I started taking 30 mEq of potassium citrate a day and I have not had a kidney stone in 10 years. It has been very effective."

Urocit-K (potassium citrate) "A great preventative drug for Calcium Oxalate kidney stone formers. Also, somehow helped with pain post-surgery. I had a cystoscopic laser lithotripsy to remove a 9mm kidney stone stuck in my kidney and my doctor prescribed me this post-surgery (in addition to all the other meds you get post-surgery). It helped with the constant burning feeling during recovery. It is also great for prevention of future kidney stones. Accidentally indulge in a meal containing high oxalates? No worries, drink a bunch of water and take one of these. Obviously, don't do that all the time but it's a great medication for those meals you just can't say no to. I think taking this medication 3x a day is excessive and found myself taking it once a day instead."
