For Agitation "I suffer from chronic migraines, daily headaches, chronic fatigue syndrome, agitated depression, anxiety and occasionally insomnia. 3 weeks in, I am picking up my life and putting it back together! I feel myself for the first time in at least 5 years! I sent today a pack of research evidence-based articles to my neurologist to asked him to allow me to stay longer on Olanzapine. I was meant to do just a 3 week trial. But I feel so happy on it! A specific situation that would have got me very stressed in the past, was so much easier! Its one the best meds I have tried it! I just hope it lasts!"

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Depression "I have ever been a fan of antidepressants as I feel they are a bandaid for underlying problems. I starting to think differently. My doctor put me on 2.5 mg along with 0.5 Xanax. After years of feeling depressed and hopeless I now have more energy, sleep well at night waking up feeling great. I have also have gained weight which I needed to do. I give Zyprexa a 10 stars"

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Bipolar Disorder "I have had great luck with this drug. I feel happy and hopeful again. I used to have serious breakdowns every two years but I have a strong feeling Zyprexa is going to reduce or even put a stop to those occurrences. I am able to enjoy activities and feel pleasure and contentment. I feel as close to non-bipolar as I think I ever will. I just hope this drug has longevity and can be used for decades like my prescriber said it could."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Insomnia "This medicine is a God send. I've tried every sleeping pill in the book (Ambien, Trazodone, Seroquel, Elavil, ETC.) None of them would keep me asleep the whole night. 10mg of this and I sleep like a baby and don't have the racing thoughts. Only problem is it's real hard to get out of bed and get moving."

For Insomnia "Zyprexa gives me the best sleep ever, but I'm tired constantly and it makes me so uncontrollably hungry. Just need to be careful about what you eat. It helps my mood too as I also have bipolar disorder. I'd recommend it if you truly can't sleep and have bipolar disorder and/or ocd."

For Depressive Psychosis "Would seriously avoid olanzapine, as I totally lost my personality, feelings and enjoyment in life. It has had massive effect on my memory and IQ. I used to be really out going and quick witted. It really has been a chemical lobotomy. Devastated! I am currently coming off of it with the help of doctor. PLEASE BE CAREFUL THIS IS A DANGEROUS DRUG!"

For Schizoaffective Disorder "I never considered myself a paranoid schizophrenic. It wasn't until my mid-20s that I got diagnosed with bipolar disorder and severe depression. I have tried so many drugs, and I always quit them because they never worked for me. I was using methamphetamines, and it really changed my brain chemistry. It made me into someone I didn't recognize. It wasn't until I received this medication (after many trial and error doctor appointments) that I began to love life again. I have never felt more like myself. Calm, happy, and motivated to do life. This is a miracle drug if you have severe anxiety and especially sleep problems. I take 15mg at nighttime. This medicine nearly saved my life and my sanity."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Bipolar Disorder "I have bipolar disorder and have been on risperidone for years. I thought it was working but I was unable to keep a job and was just very depressed and anxious in general. My doctor kept trying to get me to take Zyprexa but I was scared of the weight gain and scared of trying something new. After a very severe manic episode, I went with the doctor's advice and took Zyprexa. I am so glad I did! I felt some relief within the first week and now it has been 3 months and I am a new person. I am doing good at work, I am not afraid to talk to people, I can handle criticism, I am overall so positive, and have not gained any weight. This drug has saved my life."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Depression "I have been on this medicine for about 3 weeks now. I wake up hungry, drenched in sweat, and have also gained 15 pounds. Im thinking about getting off this medication. I have also had crying spells, irritability, and mood swings, then some other days I have felt fine. Its weird. I'm going to give it a few more weeks, and if nothing improves as far as my moods i will get off of it."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Schizophrenia "This medication killed my schizophrenia in two months. But I gained 20 pounds, which is okay considering I was a little underweight. The worst side effect was that my eyes would not move. Finally, a doctor told me to cut down my dosage from 10 mg to 5 mg, and this lowered the occurrence. When I lowered it to 2.5 mg, the side effect completely went away. Now I feel great, and the schizophrenia is still gone. I recommend Zyprexa, but the doctor has to be really careful with the dosage."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Insomnia "After having tried just about every medication. Zyprexa is the one that kept me asleep. Of course there are some mornings I wake up early. Like about 4-5 in the morning. Those nights are rare. As far as weight gain? It hasn't been an issue. And I wish everybody the best of luck while taking these medications. Because finding the right fit takes lots of patience:)"

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Bipolar Disorder "I am a 19 yo girl and I have bipolar disorder 2 and suffer anxiety and depression, so my doctor prescribed 10mg Zyprexa daily. I had HORRIBLE side effects. In four months I gained 20kg, developed cystic acne and my thinking was slow and foggy. Any self confidence I had or pride in my appearance evaporated completely. The worst part is I still had the anxiety and the depression (although I didn't expect an antipsychotic to help with depression). I'm so glad I'm not on it anymore. Zyprexa was definitely not for me."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Bipolar Disorder "I am 27 and have been dealing with manic depression for most of my life. I take Lamictal 250mg and Wellbutrin 300mg. I was very recently put on Zyprexa for the first time after a suicide attempt and hospitalization. I was VERY reluctant to try it because I've read all the side effects. I tried it (2.5mg). I have to admit it changed my life after ONE (low) dose! It was like I went to bed hanging on by a thread and woke up with all my strings attached. I saw quick results. No waiting for a month to see if it will work. Since I have only been taking this medicine for a week, I haven't had any side effects yet. So far, it has really, really been a miracle. Mood stability has always been a really huge issue for me and this has taken care of it."

For Insomnia "Im back to leave another review after being on olanzapine for a couple of months. I started taking 10mg now I take 15mg. So the issue I was so scared of was weight gain. When I started taking it I was 80 pounds, very sick and unhealthy. It helped me gain back my normal weight, back to 100-105lbs. Other than when I first started taking it, it hasn't had an effect on my hunger or weight anymore. I think it can cause weight gain if you allow it too. If you exercise, and eat normal weight gain shouldn't be an issue for you. The reason I rate this a 9 is because it does make it hard for me to get up and going like I used to prior to taking this drug, but I'd pick that over a sleepless night any day."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I have real events and false memory OCD, as well as GAD. My thoughts were running wild, I couldn't sleep more than 4 hours, and I was constantly giving in to my compulsions. After being hospitalized I was prescribed Zyprexa. It worked almost immediately. That night I was finally able to sleep a whole night, I got my appetite back, and my anxiety/thoughts were finally dampened to where I could function. I was on 2.5mg, now up to 5mg. Thank God for Zyprexa."

Nothing and I mean no meds have ever helped me before.I've tried everything over the years only to have bad side effects and no relief. ECT was actually being recommended to me then my Dr put me on a Zyprexa/ Prozac combination and for the first time in my life I've gotten relief from my symptoms and no side effects. I can finally think clearly. I feel like a totally new person a much better one."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Major Depressive Disorder "I am 5'3" tall and weigh 94lbs. I was prescribed several different antidepressants over a span of ten years along with Klonopin 1mg tid and Remeron 45mgs at bedtime for anxiety. I finally decided to see a Psychiatrist and she put me on 2.5mg of Zyprexa at bedtime. Just one dose and I was a completely different person! I woke up rested, smiling, happy, energized and a sense of well being again! This drug was like night and day for me! I am now on day 5 and I just keep feeling better! I am doing things I never dreamed I would and was able to get the job I've always wanted! For me, Zyprexa has truly changed my life and I hope it helps others the way it has helped me! The only side effect I've had is increased appetite (which I needed). :)"

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Depression "This medication is a great sedative, if that's what you're looking for. It's not euphoric, it just makes you sleepy. But it caused me to gain over 40 pounds in less than 2 months. I now get depressed just looking in the mirror. My doctor says it just makes you hungry, not gain weight, but the amount of weight I gained in such a short time is unnatural!"

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Bipolar Disorder "For me this is a miracle drug one of a kind worth everything. After years suffering with severe anxiety OCD and minor bipolar I find myself again enjoying life cooking playing with my kids reading books and magazines sleeping properly eating with good appetite and clear mind, good mood, happy. I am gaining a huge amount of weight but its worth rather be fat and normal mind then being skinny and agitated and nervous. I was browsing before and was afraid of side effects, but now I am on here to let you know its the best thing to do for your self - to take this medication."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Insomnia "This medicine has made me gain a lot of weight due to the fact I get hungry about 2 hours after taking it. After eating I always pass out and sleep through the night till I have to wake up for my job at 7 a.m. I have been taking this medication for two years now so I do not wake up groggy and foggy. This medication to me is a life saver for putting me to sleep and keeping me asleep. Just be careful with the night hungers! Other then that would totally recommend the medication if you can't sleep at night."

For Insomnia "I went through a mental health crisis, with suicidal ideation and hadn't slept more than about 30 mins to about an hour a night. I was a total mess. I was hospitalised voluntarily. The psychiatrist started me on 10mg of olanzapine and 10mg of melatonin, and for the first time that night actually slept. It was also a very good mood stabiliser. I was started on a range of antidepressants that weren't very effective, so luckily olanzapine kept me hanging in there. I saw my psychiatrist regularly. Eventually we found a regime of antidepressants that worked - mirtazapine at night and venlafaxine in the morning. I was still continuing with the olanzapine and the melatonin. I eventually discussed I'd like to slowly come off the olanzapine now the antidepressants were working. Over the course of about 3 months I tapered down slowly. Overall I was on it for 10 months. It did its job well, I had no tapering side effects. So I'd recommend it to others if needed. Get a good psychiatrist too."

Zyprexa (olanzapine) for Depression "This drug ruined my life. I was experiencing a mild depression and wanted a "buffer" before I started my new career in Atlanta, GA at Emory Hospital. The night I took Zyprexa I slept 12+ hours. I immediately started to gain weight - my lean muscle tissue was replaced by adipose tissue. I developed gynecomastia (man boobs). I was tired and irritable all day due to Zyprexa's anti-dopaminergic effects. In a frenzied effort to heal my body, I spent so much money on organic foods, because no matter how healthy I ate and much I exercised, I kept gaining weight. This drug was a nightmare and took me about 3 months of absolute terror to heal from."

For Agitation "I found Olanzapine to be a fantastic alternative to benzos for agitation. I wasn't keen on taking benzos again due to risk of becoming addicted. I find Olanzapine kicks in quite quickly and definitely helps to calm me down if I'm feel agitated or anxious. I take this as well as a tetracyclic antidepressant. I find it does make it hard to wake up in the morning, but the plus is that I get a great night's sleep on this medication. Weight gain is a side effect, but I was underweight before taking it so that worked well for me. Of course it's always good to be aware of long-term side effects for atypical APs and I'm personally tapering off with my doctor now that my mental health is improving."
