For Migraine Prevention "2 or 3 weeks in with 25mg Nortriptyline at bedtime. Migraines seem reduced, but it has had an unbearable effect on my ACID REFLUX. As long as I eat healthy and avoid trigger foods, I do not take an acid reducer such as omeprazole, but I will need to take it if I continue the Nortriptyline. I tried this medicine about a year ago, but stopped taking it because of heartburn. My doctor said it was not associated with heartburn, but now I have been taking it for the 2nd time and gotten a huge flare-up of heartburn again. I am convinced that for me it is the medicine and not a coincidence now."

For Migraine Prevention "I have been on this since the beginning of October 2015.. I never really write any reviews.. but I swear this drug saved my life. . I am a pro athlete and my migraines had got so bad I couldn't train any more. Almost a year went by with no training. . It got to the point that I was going into the hospital at least once a week. . CT scans and Mri. . The whole 9 yards. Finally the ER Dr told me I should really consider taking this so I did. Within 2 weeks I was migraine free. . And haven't had one since. It is truly a life saver. I am also finding that I am in a better place mentally as well."

For Pain "I am 56 years old who with severe chronic nerve pain in my neck from herniation at C6-C7 and C4-C5. I opted no surgery and I have had zero quality of life and on bed rest for 4 years. Started PT with pain meds neurotin 600mg and I was slowly able to function in a brain fog but free from strong narcotics. Went to amitriptyline 40mg at night slept great but next day brain fog with memory lapses and always tired. Now on 10mg nortriptyline I take in the morning Because it affects me like a stimulate and hard to sleep at night but been on for a week. I have constipation but I take fiber in water helps. I love been alert with a clear head! So far no pain on 10mg so I won't increase unless I have pain. A very livable dose."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I have had Irritable Bowel Syndrome for 30 years, and it has gradually gotten so bad that I told my doctor that I could no longer have a normal life, and I hated what Irritable Bowel Syndrome was doing to me. He prescribed 10mg of nortriptyline, and I highly doubted it would help. I was already on another antidepressant. However, it helped so much... it is a godsend! I can now enjoy life again. I can eat! I am not worrying about how I am going to get through the day with stomach pain. I can make plans to do things. I can enjoy my family and work again."

For Pain "I was given 25 mg Nortryptyline for shingles pain, along with Gabapentin, and Tramadol for shingles and back pain. I now have PHN, I have had this pain for 6 months now. I had pretty severe burning pain. Within 3 days the burning stopped. Most of the pain went away except at night. I went up on the gabapentin several times. I didn't want to go up on Nortryptyline due to side effects ( extreme dry mouth, and it was hard to wake up in the morning). Occasionally I miss a dose on accident, I go to sleep without it. I will hurt so much that I can't do anything but sit and use ice packs all day. Also my pain will be much worse for 3 whole days following a missed pill. This has happened 5-6 times. Nortryptyline is the most effective medicine I ta"

For Depression "I was hospitalized for depression recently after many hospitalizations. I have tried almost all of SSRIs & the only one that slightly helped was Wellbutrin. It stopped working for me in the last year along with lithium. I was prescribed nortriptyline in hospital starting at 10 mg up to 100 mg. Shortly after the 100 mg I experienced a feeling of being on speed. The surge of rage taking over me and caused so many panic attacks. After a visit to ER it was reduced to 85 mg. After a couple of days on 85 mg of nortriptyline I felt like my old self again. In disbelief my lack of motivation was gone and I experienced “my old self”. So far it has been a week and I feel very good. I hope this lasts as I’ve been experiencing treatment resistant depression for 4 years now. Let’s hope this tricyclics antidepressant is the answer for me."

For Migraine Prevention "I have migraine associated vertigo (1 year +). Forget how many meds I have tried, but 10 mg nortriptyline was fine. I was having good sleep. Dry mouth. DR increased it to 20 mg. I started feeling more dizzy and nausea. Week 2, blurry vision and slurred speech. I declined more with mobility and strength. Told to go to the ER and got migraine IV. Slowly weaned off nortriptyline and thankfully no more blurry vision and slurred speech. DR never talked about these side effects and this was very frightening."

Pamelor (nortriptyline) for Depression "My neurologist prescribed Nortriptyline for Neuropathy. It did not help much for that condition. However, at the time I was suffering from severe depression due to having to place my husband in a nursing home. The medication did wonders for me and I have been a daily user since that time."

For Pain "After 7 years of chronic pain in my lower back and stabbing/burning pain in my glute, I was finally prescribed Nortriptiline. I waited two weeks to start it as Pregabalin had been so horrible. After one dose I finally was able to sleep for 7 hours. Had been sleeping for about 4 hrs a night up until then because of the pain which didn't respond to Ibuprophen, Paracetamol or Opioid based medication. Pain relief lasts for about 17 hours. No side effects other than I do feel a bit sleepy at times. Still take Ibubrophen if I have over done the gardening or house work. Now it works to help me sleep. Dose is 20mg a night."

For Neuralgia "I was diagnosed with trigeminal and occipital neuralgia. I was at my wits end. Nothing was helping me and no doctor could tell me what it was. Eventually I stumbled upon a neurologist to prescribed nortriptyline at 10 mg a day for the first week, increasing to 20 mg there after. It knocked out severe neuralgia, 11 on a scale of 1 to 10! I also noticed that my undiagnosed, diffuse but intense joint pain began to lesson as well. I am now able to function like a normal human being again. I am very grateful for this medication."

For Depression "My doctor switched me to nortriptyline for depression. I started out at 50mg a night for a month, then upped it to 75mg a night. Since taking the 75mg, the depression has gone away. And I feel so much better. I've been on SSRIs for years and was always still depressed. The doctor told me I was allergic to SSRIs and put me on a tricyclic. Worked wonders."

For Migraine Prevention "I've been on nortriptyline for close to 15 years now for migraine treatments after a significant head injury. Before being put on the medicine, I'd get migraines that would put me out for days at a time. After starting out at a low dose, it helped control my migraines and has continued to do so over the past 15 or so years (though with increased dosage). The most common side effects have been drowsiness, dry mouth, quivers in my hands, along with an adverse reaction to prolonged periods of being in the sun. I've also put on a few pounds over the past few years, but that may be the result of moving from an active job to a more sedentary one and not the medication. Overall, nortriptyline has been great at controlling my migraines without too many negatives."

For Depression "I was the person who had all kind of problems and non of them could be linked together. So I seen many doctors and I tried many drugs. I had major depression which all the usual depressants made worse. Debilitating migraines. Moderate to severe muscle and joint pain. Severe insomnia and panic attacks. I was on many medications and in high doses. Didn't help. It was very frustrating cause no one believed what I experienced was real. Till a friend on college said maybe it's just in your head and encouraged me to see the counsellor who in turn sent me to.the shrink. And he took me off.everything I was on and put me on nortriptyline with in 3 weeks. I did a 180. Except for the panic attacks which I started taking lorazapam. I'm doing great."

For Migraine Prevention "Tension headaches gone, less stressed/anxious feeling and better mood. Sleep is perfect. 20 mg in the evening. Do not take during the day, it will make you too tired and "out of it". Worked perfectly day one, then seemed to make headaches worse for a while. I stuck with it since I read everywhere it can take up to 4 weeks or even longer to work and then at 4 weeks almost exactly everything is much improved. Works great. Went up to 20 mg week 2 (started at 10mg). 10 mg may have worked just as well...hard to say..."

For Pain "I've suffered from chronic pain my entire life and often haven't been able to sleep as a result. I found this medication to often be very helpful. Though it took several weeks to really work, it definitely helped me sleep and my pain has decreased. I was started at a very low dose, which gave me a lot of flexibility to move up and down as the situation required. Taking the medication coincided with some slight weight gain, but this could have been due to a variety of other factors. Overall I found it very helpful!"

For Pain "I was prescribed this to help with my back pain after nearly everything else failed and amitriptyline made me like a zombie. Regrettably, it's had very little effect on my back pain, and it doesn't really help with sleeping - it has however worked wonders for the horrendous "nerve end" sensitivity I was experiencing meaning I couldn't allow my dogs to sit alongside me, never mind touching me."

For Depression "I have been on nortriptyline for 2.5 years due to anxiety and it has significantly improved my quality of life. I do have dry mouth as a side effect but it is very worth it in comparison to the benefits that it brings. Prior to starting nortriptyline I experienced a number of secondary symptoms caused by my anxiety: insomnia, headaches, and loss of appetite. In addition to reducing my anxiety, I now sleep well every night, no longer have frequent headaches, and I have an appetite that allows me to keep my weight at a healthy spot (I was too thin before). These things seem to help my immune system too because I seem to be much better at fighting off/avoiding colds than before I was on this medication. So in summary: This medication helped address my anxiety and a bunch of secondary symptoms that I hadn’t realized were anxiety related. On this medication I feel happier and healthier than ever before."

Pamelor (nortriptyline) for Migraine Prevention "I have been taking Pamelor for close to 4 years now. After a coiling procedure for an inoperable brain aneurism, I suffered constant migraines. The doctor who performed the coiling did not offer any solution, but a local neurologist in my home town prescribed it for me. It changed what was to be my new life of pain into a much more tolerable existence. A little dizziness is easy to live with. I take 50 mg every morning. Life is good again!"

For Pain "I have Myofascial pain syndrome and median nerve entrapment that makes my fingers numb with tingling sensation. I have a very bad pain on my left scapula that radiates down to my lower back and travels to my left arm down to my fingers- the pain that I cannot explain at all, it disrupts the quality of my life, I thought there's no hope for my pain to go away. My doctor tried some other pain medication including neural injection. After taking 3rd dose of nortriptylline 10mg I can see the difference , my pain is dull and episodic but tolerable. Everyone is different but there's ni harm in trying if we are concern of side effects, all medications have side effects anyway.I recommend to those who are suffering from pain to try this"

For Migraine Prevention "Been having worsening migraines for 8 or more years. Tried so many different things, I am basically disabled at this point, sick almost daily from either migraine or rebound day. After Topamax, steroids, beta blockers, you name it, I've tried it. Finally I've been put on nortriptyline, after 2 weeks I haven't had a single migraine. I hate to be skeptical but it's almost too good to believe for me since I've been sick so long, so I will be reporting back soon. But I even feel differently just how my brain feels. Right now I'm quite thrilled and the results seem to be what's reported by everyone else here (taking 25mg at night)."
