Lupron (leuprolide) for Prostate Cancer "I was diagnosed in September 2016 with prostate cancer, and I have been on lupron ever since, in between I had 37 radiotherapy sessions. I have to be on lupron 2 years, but I would love to end it now. It has done o/k at lowering PSA but my QOL has suffered greatly, along with that of my dear wife. My mental health has taken a big hit with extreme depression and anxiety and bodily I have no strength and no ED. It works great for some men without any side effects but for others like me they can be overwhelming. Best wishes to all on this journey. kluff."

Lupron Depot (leuprolide) for Uterine Fibroids "This shot did not shrink my fibroids uterus before my operation. As a matter fact they grew. It’s going on four months since I’ve had the shot, already had my operation. Do still have my ovaries. I’m still getting hot flashes. I have a headache every day of different levels. The nausea almost went away. Hot flashes are worse at night so I’m losing a lot of sleep. The last three weeks my legs are aching every day when I get up. I have no desire to have sex. This is definitely miserable. My doctor said the effects of the lupron would be gone in three months but they’re still here. I don’t recommend the shot for anybody for any reason."

Lupron Depot (leuprolide) for Endometriosis "I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis in April of 2017. My situation was a little different because the disease went into my colon and shut down my bowel system. After two surgeries my doctor recommended I go on Lupron for 6 months. After reading the reviews, I told my doctor no. I was scared out my mind. He insisted and I finally agreed. I just took my last shot of my 6mo treatment and in the beginning I experienced the hot flashes but I was given Northein pills to offset it and it worked. I didn't bleed, I occasionally had sweats, nausea or an upset stomach. However; I can't say anything really bad about the drug. I'm glad I took it. I think it depends on the individual body but I will say you have to give your system time to adapt to the drug."

Eligard (leuprolide) for Prostate Cancer "I was diagnosed with prostate cancer around Thanksgiving 2020 and given a one month dose of Eligard about 2 months later. Then two more 6 month hormone shots of Eligard. I have also had SBRT and brachytherapy. So while it is difficult to assign the side effects I am experiencing to the Eligard alone, I am affected by nearly all its known side effects. I have zero libido, 4 or 5 hot flashes per day, major loss of strength and energy, genital shrinkage, body hair loss, weight gain, frequent urination at night, some short term memory loss, mood changes, apathy, and increased frequency of bowel movements. I have trouble carrying groceries up the stairs where I live now because of my loss of strength. I have continued to exercise and I take calcium, vitamin D, and multi-vitamin supplements, but I am still getting progressively weaker. The good news is my PSA is around zero now, and if it doesn’t increase I won’t have to get another Eligard injection when this last one wears off."

Lupron (leuprolide) for Endometriosis "My daughter(19) was given Lupron immediately after surgery to remove endometriosis.. The doctor came to us right as she was in recovery and said she was giving her Lupron to suppress the cause. No explanation of side effects...how I regret it. She had to leave college...and the pain, weight gain, lack of concentration, etc have been traumatic for us all. It takes YEARS to get this out of your system! I regret EVERY day that I let this happen to my daughter. I should have asked the questions, but I trusted the doctor."

Lupron Depot (leuprolide) for Uterine Fibroids "Received one shot for three full months. Nearing the end . Major side effects were the hot flashes and some weird feeling of uneasiness. I would not take it again. Hot flashes are not cool. Just had ultrasound and will be seeing doctor soon to see if shot was a success in killing cysts. The drug may work but wow all these side effects."

Lupron (leuprolide) for Prostate Cancer "Hot sweats were the thing most mentioned and most noticeable. My apologies for lack of empathy to all those who I've known going through them. Muscle mass loss and decreased exercise tolerance. My total weight lifted in a usual work out fell to about 1/3. Dry scaling skin and increased dry hair. However, my creeping male pattern baldness was certainly less noticeable. Testicular size and libido took a hit."

Lupron (leuprolide) for Prostate Cancer "From the urologist, Lupron is a hormone to shrink the prostate prior to the x-ray treatments for cancer. I have lived with BPH for several years, and it did not shrink the prostate in my opinion. Subsequently, I learned from the Oncologist it was for lowering the PSA. and it did lower the PSA. The hormone was injected in the right and left gluteus muscles with the predicted soreness that passed with time. Three months prior to radiation; markers were placed in the prostate. After the markers were placed a second round of injections were required. This round resulted in a mistake, and the injection in the left gluteus resulted in the Sciatic nerve being punctured which has resulted in severe pain and soreness continuing to date."

Lupron Depot (leuprolide) for Uterine Fibroids "I had very heavy periods. My doctor offered lupron shot. I decided to go with 2 lupron shots hopping it would shrink my fibroid. Instead, my fibroid grew bigger. It caused me horrible headaches with strongest pain killers not helping. After each shot my period would not stop for a month (at least it was not heavy). Hot flushes were horrible. Good night sleep was gone. I would wake up multiple times a night all drenched in sweat. After effect of lupron wore out and my period re-started it was as heavy as before. The only benefit I got was not having a period for few months (with some bleeding in between), but at a very high price (side effects and actual price). I think as heavy as my period was it was better to have my period for few days a month, than having frequent very bad headaches and constant hot flashes. I would not recommend it based on my experience. I would not have it done if I would have to decide today."

Lupron Depot-PED (leuprolide) for Precocious Puberty "My daughter was prescribed depo lupron when she was about 6 years old. I would never recommend it to any one. She gained alot of weight. Became obese, has a lot of stretch marks, has high cholesterol, high sugar levels, sleep apnea, uses a cpap machine to sleep. She fights with me to binge eat. I am so sad I feel guilty for using this drug. I wish I would have let her get her period she would have only struggled for a little bit with that, than with a life time of health issues. Who cares if they stay shorter, short is beautiful too, and even big is beautiful but this med gives health problems that did exist. I feel like I scarred her for life :("

Lupron Depot (leuprolide) for Endometriosis "Lupron is a HORRIBLE medication. Many medical "professionals" are not forthcoming with their patients about all the side effects, or the long term side effects that continue well after Lupron is stopped. They also don't tell you it can kill you, or disable your life. This medication sent my life in a tailspin (of course I was lied too- being told all the positive, and common things you will find on any site about Lupron) I will never return back to normal. Just like so many others. I am now having to go for disability thanks to Lupron, and the negligence of of the doctor who gave It to me. Do IN DEPTH RESEARCH! Know your facts! I do not recommend this medication Not only does it damage your body in many ways, but it's put me into a living nightmare!"

All bleeding stopped about a week and a half after my first Lupron shot. At this point, it's only been a month, so I don't know if I'll still need a hysterectomy. "

Lupron Depot (leuprolide) for Uterine Fibroids "I developed several fibroids in my late 40s that caused very heavy bleeding. I opted for a hysterectomy and was given one shot of Lupron about 3 months prior in the hope that it would shrink the fibroids before I had surgery. I cannot say that it shrunk them (my uterus size was comparable to a 5-month pregnancy), but it did stop my periods immediately and that it made it worth it to me. The only side effect I ever experienced were extremely painful cramps a few times (once so bad I had to pull off the road because I was driving). Still worth it."

Lupron Depot (leuprolide) for Uterine Fibroids "I had the 3 month 11.25mg on 3/30/2015 to shrink my giant fibroid to the size that the laparoscopic myomectomy can be performed. I had no symptom of side effects for the first month and also having my period but ever since the second month (May) the side effects were really hitting me hard; including hot flashes and night sweat. Had my surgery at the end of June and my doctor confirmed that I had reacted to the Lupron more thanexpected as the fibroid not only shrink but part of it was degenerated. So Instead of a 2 hours operation, it ends up to be a 6 hours. Now, it's been 5 months and the Lupron still lasting (period still not back yet), don't know when it will be gone..."

Lupron Depot (leuprolide) for Uterine Fibroids "Had a large pedunctulated fibroid tumor on my uterus- shot was administered , they found my fibroid got larger after 3 months. Had to have a partial hysterectomy to have it removed so I could sit, drive and have sex without being uncomfortable or bleeding. I had every side effect which was miserable. I had extreme hair loss (thinning) and I'm still trying to grow it back... this drug did not work for me. It has been over a year."

Lupron Depot (leuprolide) for Uterine Fibroids "I am 48 yrs old. I was bleeding nonstop for over a year due to a large fibroid.....and I was in much pain. In Jan 2019 I started my Lupron 3 month shot, and I’ve had two more shots since then (every three month). I have not bled since Jan. My 6cm centrally located fibroid shrunk to 5cm within 6 months. My uterus reduced in size from 10cm to 8cm. I was anemic but my blood levels are back to normal now. I do get hot flashes often. My hair is thinning and dry. My biggest problem is bone pain in my fingers /toes. But that’s nothing compared to how bad I felt when I was bleeding. I have been very moody at times over the past 10 months. I’m supposed to schedule one more dose of the shot before my doctor will decide what to do next, hoping I can just start menopause so I don’t have to have surgery. I also have multiple sclerosis. But so far the MS flair up, due to this fibroid, is minimal."

Lupron Depot (leuprolide) for Prostate Cancer "I have been on lupron for 6 months (2 of the three month injections). This drug is very effective in slowing the prostate cancer growth. Testosterone is the fuel for PC. My testosterone level went from 840 to 11 in three weeks after my first injection! However, there surely are side-effects. Mine are: 1. Fatigue and low energy with breathlessness upon exercise. 2. Hot flashes 3. low red blood cell count (anemia). 4. Lack of sexual desire and unable to perform. 5. Shrunken testicles and penis. The side-effects are frustrating...but you can tough them out. God has given me strength, and without my faith...this would be much tougher. My wife has been an angel with her constant support. Goodluck!"

Lupron Depot (leuprolide) for Endometriosis "I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Endometriosis and had a major surgery. I was only able to take four of the six shots. The side effects are TERRIBLE. I had almost all of them. I took my last shot in March 2015. It has been one month and I am now experiencing panic and anxiety attacks along with high blood pressure. I am only 37 and gained weight now weighing 155 and have a blood pressure of 142/103. I have never had high blood pressure until the third month of the shot. I have hot flashes, night sweats, chest pains that sent me to the ER, vaginal discharge, painful intercourse, vomiting of the day I got the shot. It has been an awful experience. I am praying that when it gets all out of my system, I will not see any of these side effects anymor"

Lupron Depot (leuprolide) for Uterine Fibroids "I love that it completely stopped my outrageous heavy bleeding, which in turn made me anemic. So I am happy for that. However, the only side effect that I am experiencing is super dry skin on my arms, neck and face...I feel it is aging me overnight. Some constipation, and not really hot flashes but warm spells every now and then. Can't wait for surgery to get my hormones back to work."
