For Angina "My brother was put on this medication on Wednesday; yesterday (Saturday) he was taken to the ER with side affects from this. He felt like his chest was caving in, severe head ache, couldn't get warm enough. His blood pressure went severely low and his heart rate went high. He is still in the hospital today for observation. Would not recommend this drug to anyone."

For Angina "My husband was given Isosorbide 2 years ago as he got so very anxious etc., hospital thought that this would stop him having an angina attack which it has but the side effects are awful. He suffers from headaches, does not eat like he use to and he loved his hot cooked home food so that has gone and will just eat a bowl of cereal for supper we have a sandwich and a piece of cake at lunch time, breakfast and that is all. The other side effects include headache, feeling dizzy, not sleeping any longer than 2 hours each night, also complains of having a hot head but not every day, he just sits and doesn't feel like doing anything and I can understand if he is feeling like this, also his eyes run in the morning but think this is because he does not have enough sleep. I would desperately like him to come off this awful tablets as his tests show that his heart, thank God is alright and his blood pressure now is where it should be. He also takes 1 Aspirin each morning. Please help."

For Angina "I was prescribed this medicine - isosorbide 30mg. First I thought something wrong on me. After a couple days, I started had headache, dizzy, nasal, pain spread across my arm, shoulder and on the back. Try to walk around the house can not balance well afraid of fell down. I need to stay in bed. I felt fatigued. Found out this was side effects of the isosorbide medicine, What kind of medicine it try to accomplish do more harm than help. Dreadful medication"

For Angina "Was prescribed this after heart attack and had stent in. Have been taking just 30mg of Carmel XL and today will be my last day. Pounding headache nothing can help. Can only lie down, every tiny movement hurts. Can't see properly. Not having angina attacks since surgery, so don't see the point of this medicine, surely a spray when needed is better? Would not recommend, but feel I have been mis prescribed by hospital."

For Angina "I have been on this drug for 6 months. 30 mg. I have not experienced any side effects. Recently increased the amount to 60 mg. and the first few days a was very dizzy and felt weak. I am confident I will get use to the higher dosage."

For Angina "This medication was prescribed to help increase blood flow through a blocked artery (85-90% of the circumflex) although I'm fairly functional. I am also on Metoprolol for blood pressure and a recently prescribed statin along with baby aspirin. I took 1/2 of my 30mg pill yesterday and got an annoying headache. Today I took the full pill first thing in the morning and now have a really bad headache bordering on the feel of a migraine minus the nausea-though I do feel a little queasy. I feel SO bad that I am considering discontinuing it-though thanks to some of the reviews here I will try to take for a week before making that decision in case I can become accustomed to it. I have stable angina so at this point the horrible side effects are not worth it for the supposed benefit. I'd rather get winded and take it slower than be in the state I'm in."

For Angina "I have been treated since heart attacks and by-pass surgery. I also suffer from Rayna disease and before isosorbide my hands caused so much pain. Turning white, blue then red. Very painfully if it cold even in doors I wear gloved. But since isosorbide my hand stay pretty normal. Love it."

Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate) for Angina "Went to the ER last Sunday for chest pain/angina attack, couldn't walk up the stairs without feeling like I was having a heart attack, so new cardiologist put me on Imdur 30mg. The first day I was fine, the second day about 3 to 5 hours after taking it I cane down with an ungodly migraine. I have been on it now for 6 days, and 5 of them I have had a migraine - not cool. But I have to admit that I'd rather have the headache because it has been heavenly being able to walk around with zero heart attack like pain"

For Esophageal Spasm "I have no pain but at a swallow test was diagnosed with esophageal spasms along with a small hiatal hernia. I am having a lump-like feeling in my throat when I make saliva, but not when I eat or drink. I was prescribed a half of a 30 mg tablet daily. I have taken twice and got a headache, but not a really bad one. I’m wondering if I even need to take it."

For Angina "Was prescribed the ER tablet. Took it for three months, no problems. Then the excruciating headaches began which were relieved by nothing...24 hours a day. All I could do was stay in bed. When the pill was in effect for about only 8 hours a day, before the onset of headaches, I felt great, but when it wore off, I couldn't do anything. Everything caused chest pain. After the fourth month, the headaches were still excruciating so I stopped taking it. Have had only one episode of angina since then which seems to be brought on by stress. I just find I have to be careful not to overdo physically and I do fine. This med has so many side effects you can't even count them all. I wondered if it was causing some strange adverse effect in my brain because the headaches didn't start until I had been on it about 3 months. Asked my cardiologist about this and why the delayed headache. His answer "I don't know." Big help that was."

For Angina "Dr. prescribed Ismo 30mg and after taking it, felt so much head and neck pain but I slept right away. The next day, no headache felt but my neck and shoulders are really hurting. Then after a few minutes, my heart starts pounding fast and felt like I'm losing my breath. This went on for hours. I cannot sleep because of difficulty in breathing and my heart's like palpitating through the night. I can't sleep. Felt like my heart's racing. And I feel restless and like having insomnia. I stop the med after that 1 dose. Will go to another doctor for second opinion."

For Angina "After leaving hospital, I was prescribed isosorbide mononitrate I took 1 and headache was so severe I couldn't sleep and lasted 8 hours. Had to take aspirin to get manageable. Waited a day to understand what just happened. On third day (today) cut the pill in half and tried again. At 10 am I took it and by 12:30 started getting dizzy, and headache returned like a three penny nail. It is now 6pm and is now manageable. Seriously DON'T think I can deal with this."

For Angina Pectoris Prophylaxis "I have been taking isosorbide mononitrate for over a year now for stable angina pectoris. I take it at 10 A.M. in the morning rather than when I get up, which works best for me because it's effect only lasts 9 hours for me, and If I take it too early, I have a severe rebound period beginning at about the 9 hour mark... eating the evening meal at 6 P.M. causes hard angina attack if I am in the rebound period. In my rebound period, walking 50-60 feet or any similar activity brings on an attack and I have to take one .4mg nitroglycerin sublingual tablet as a minimum, and If I don't catch it early two or three nitro tabs. My rebound period is most problematic from about 9 hours to 14 hours after taking the drug. In the mornings after resting overnight, I'm good."

For Angina "I’ve got angina and have been prescribed this drug 10mg twice a day. Horrendous headache that just lasts all day every day. Taking paracetamol but I’m worried about having to take too much. Will ask my GP about it at check up."

For Angina "I've been 3 years on 60 mgs now and the last few months started to feel very ill. I have frozen shoulder and after 3 months of acupuncture and chiropractor it's not getting better. Along with headaches and back ache and a general constant feeling of the life being drained out of me. This situation is making me very depressed and feeling hopeless. I did try to cut the pills in half for a week and became so ill and unable to stand I have had to go back on them. I will now try to wean off them in smaller doses as I cannot keep existing like this. The Cardiologist had said no way in stop taking them, he was adamant, then when I said I'd had frozen shoulder for the last few months he was "oh you got frozen shoulder, ok stop taking them" it was ONLY THEN that I looked at side effects and frozen shoulder is or can be one of them.... It's been SO debilitating I'm at my wits end to think this could largely be because of medication...leaves me totally frustrated."

For Heart Failure "This was for the Isosorbide Dinitrate 20mg Tablets. This was worse pain I ever experienced on this medication. The headaches were so unbearable debilitating that I had to go to the emergency room. They were so severe my vision became blurry, I had 3 CT scans and and MRI done just take make sure I had Intercranial bleeding . They stopped that mesiciatiin along with Hydralazine to bring me back to normal."

For Angina "Unfortunately I had such severe migraine headaches that lasted all day at least 24 hours. I tried to take a half still in bed with migraines. I have a blocked artery that can't be stented and had a bypass in 2019. I had blurred vision and nausea. I honestly don't know what to do."

For Angina "Was on 30mg tablet with no side effects now on 60mg and get the most horrendous headaches. Paracetamol, ibuprofen or any other pain reliever is useless as they don't work. Would have thought that in this day and age they could produce something that has no side effects"

For Angina "I’ve been taking the medicine since 2019 after a heart attack for angina. 30 mg once a day. Unfortunately if I stop it there is a withdrawal and the pain comes back. So I need to keep on taking it. Headache and dizziness is bad."

For Angina Pectoris Prophylaxis "I have been taking 60mg of the extended release isosorbide mononitrate for more than a year. For me it works for 9.5 to 10 hours and then I have a "rebound" period of about 4 hours where I can't do anything but sit still and avoid any stress at all or I have an angina attack. The rebound period has been getting worse the past couple of months and I have had attacks while sitting doing nothing. I take the dose at 10 o'clock a.m. so that the rebound won't start until 7:30 - 8:00 in the evening. I have had to start taking .4 mg nitroglycerin at 8 o'clock and again at 9:30 to get through the evening without an attack."

For Angina "I have unstable angina and always felt very much at risk and vulnerable. Started taking isosorbide mononitrate and the first four days had terrible headaches. I knew this was possible and persevered. The headaches reduced in severity and within 10 days had stopped. No more severe chest pain. I have had a few mild episodes of chest pain, but not enough to use my GTN spray. I feel so much better and secure. Glad I persevered with them."

For Heart Failure "This medication causes me to have pressure and tightness in my head, tightness in my ear, and inflammation. I take it along with hydralazine and it does not lower my blood pressure enough. A higher dosage increases the bad symptoms."

For Heart Failure "I am a 78-year-old with heart failure. I have been on this medication for about a month. I experienced a slight headache in the first few days, but it was gone by the end of the first week. It has been effective in relieving my angina. I would recommend it if you don't experience headaches."

For Angina "I've been using the 30MG ER version for about a week. My symptoms were pain in shoulder and chest when hiking. First few days had significant headaches ( at least for me who never gets them ) that Tylenol nor aspirin could not alleviate. Also felt tired and weak. Must say a turnaround from the symptoms occurred on the 5th day which was yesterday. Tiny, briefly felt headache dissipated with Tylenol. The cool thing is that since 2-3 days ago no longer any left shoulder ( which sometimes radiated to the chest )pain does not occur when hiking up a fairly steep incline or 2 nor the heavy, labored breathing ( tho theres will always be some of that--I mean I'm 74 and realistic ). I hope this will be enduring."
