For Iron Deficiency Anemia "I've only been taking this for about 3 days and it's been a 3 day pure gastrointestinal nightmaree. Stomach ache, bloating, nausea and the gas! The gas is out of control and I'm surprised my family still wants to be around me. I am definitely gonna switch to a non-sulfate version."

For Iron Deficiency Anemia "I began to have more energy after about two weeks of taking the iron and vitamin C. Then I began to notice my blood pressure was steadily increasing. Instead of being slightly elevated in the morning and dropping by mid-morning, it was higher levels each morning and staying high all day unless the blood pressure was treated. My doctor and pharmacist say they haven’t heard of this as a side effect. Today was my second morning without the pill and my systolic pressure has dropped 5 points."

For Iron Deficiency Anemia "Do they have lactose in them? Third day taking them and felt so sick I checked the ingredients--they contain lactose. Iron deficiency is a direct cause of lactose intolerance and its reported that 70% of us are intolerant anyway. I don't know why they put that in them!! Ask for a lactose free prescription."

For Iron Deficiency Anemia "Okay so today when I woke up I had a diarrhea and it made me feel very weak and I lost energy because of taking ferrous sulfate I think. I poo dark and watery and it is really the worst thing ever. I just wanna ask should I still continue the ferrous sulfate? By the way it'll be 4 weeks in 2 days and I felt better but still pale. But now I have diarrhea. What do I do?"

For Iron Deficiency Anemia "Needed for low iron levels. Reduced my period bleeding, extreme bloating and some nausea. Even tried taking it with a meal and lots of citrus for vitamin C. Make stool darker and smellier, I eat lots of vegetables for my normal diet so no constipation was experienced. Stopped after around a week."

For Iron Deficiency Anemia "The drug makes me severely sick to the stomach with bad stomach pains and frequent loose stools. I have also been having headaches, but I am not 100% sure that it is related. I have taken it off and on for years and never had side effects. Perhaps I need to take it with food or not when I take my other meds."

Slow Fe (ferrous sulfate) for Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "It is supplied in non-blister packaging by some manufacturers. Be specific about what you need if you have difficulty with the individual packaging. Pharmacy staff have been able to help me. I have been taking it regularly for over 10 years, and it has kept my blood levels up."

Slow Fe (ferrous sulfate) for Iron Deficiency Anemia "Please pay attention to the comments about the packaging. Always have to look for something--a knife, tine of a fork, etc, etc, to get the stupid pill out--and then hope it doesn't burst out and careen onto the floor."

For Iron Deficiency Anemia "Took this for anemia due to menorrhagia. Caused severe abdominal pain, bad taste in my mouth, slight nausea. My doctor was confused and ready to refer me to a gastroenterologist. I got some relief from the abdominal pain with taking low dose OTC iron instead. All these issues stopped when I had a hysterectomy and no longer needed iron."

For Iron Deficiency Anemia "Dr prescribed iron and I was feeling better at two weeks. Take 3 months then follow up at 3 months. Only told watch for constipation. 2 months later suddenly began having diarrhea with sudden urge to go… now. This went on for almost a month thinking it had something to do with new hypothyroid med. but honestly it all began about 4 days before I began this med. I was convinced it was to do with something thyroid as the only other thing I was taking was iron & everybody knows iron makes iron stool and doctor told me only of constipation too…this was not the case. I was waiting for follow up with endocrinologist (thyroid doc) To see what she thought, which was scheduled before my reg. doc follow up for iron. She was as confused as me. Between taking iron that supposedly only will back you up & hypothyroid which also slows that down"

For Iron Deficiency Anemia "I’ve been taking ferrous sulphate for 2 weeks now and I do notice I have more energy. I still get pretty tired early in the night, but when I wake up I am no longer exhausted. I suffer from GI issues that can easily be triggered if the wrong thing goes into my stomach. I was very skeptical about iron pills, but my doctor told me to take the pills with breakfast. I feel this has helped me not suffer terrible GI issues. If I eat dinner at 6/7 pm and breakfast at 9 am with no lunch or snacks in between I have noticed that I get really nauseous about an hour after dinner. Although, if I eat more frequently throughout the day I am completely fine. There have been a couple of days where I didn’t pass a bowel movement, but I did not feel like I had to. Typically it’s normal for me to go once a day. I feel I will sometimes experience very mild constipation on this pill. I take a probiotic every single day with the pill to make sure I am as regular as possible."
