For Lyme Disease "I am a 55 year old woman and was prescribed Doxycycline Hyclate 100mg for Lyme Disease. I took it twice a day for 30 days. During the last week of treatment, I noticed how I started to feel depressed: I found everything and everyone to be irritating, and I just wanted to be left alone. Yesterday was my first day without the medication, and I spent the most awful night of my life: I experienced vivid suicidal thoughts, was contemplating ways to end my life, and even wrote a letter to my children. The next day, I browsed the Internet and noticed I was not alone! I feel the company should absolutely list suicidal thoughts as a side effect of their drug, not only for adolescents, but for adults also. This way, family members and doctors could be warned and keep a close eye on every person to whom this drug is prescribed. If you've experienced suicidal thoughts while using this medication"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I suffer from an eye inflamation disorder, and am on doxy for life, so when i had a UTI recently I just upped the dosage - Thought I would share a few of the more common side effects with you. 1st is Nausea - if you shock your system with it (Doxy is a VERY powerful broad spectrum antibiotic) by taking too much too quickly you are likely to get lightheaded and nauseous about an hour after taking it - symptoms persist for another hour or so, and then goes away - best bet is spread it out but with a lower dose - 50mg 4 x a day is just as effective as 100mg twice a day, but causes MUCH fewer symptoms. Secondly - this WILL destroy your natural gastrointestinal flaura and after 3 days or so you will get looser stools and your gas will be BAD"

For Pneumonia "Seven day prescription for doxycycline taken for community acquired pneumonia. Was as sick as I’ve ever been for a week. Started meds on a Sunday afternoon and by Monday evening I was feeling so much better, not perfect, but I was sure I was going to live after all. Prior to the meds, I wasn’t so sure. Make sure to take with food. I took it on an empty stomach one morning and dry-heaved for about 15 minutes. But I've taken it with food every other time and I haven’t even had heart burn. This antibiotic made me feel so much better so quickly."

For Acne "I started taking doxycycline after I got bad acne on my neck and back after getting B12 injections. I was taking doxycycline for 3 months. My skin definitely purged and got worse while on it, but you need to stick with it and it gets better. I have been off it for 2 months and my acne hasn’t come back (here’s hoping it doesn’t come back as bad as it was)! I had no side effects while taking it."

For Lyme Disease "Originally prescribed doxycycline for 14 days for Lyme Disease. There was a 2 year gap before diagnosis/prescription, which apparently makes a big difference in a bad way for long term efficacy. The first round, I didn't have any adverse effects at all. Easy to take, no upset stomach or significant light sensitivity. After the first few doses, I could feel pains I didn't have before shooting through my arms. Was told to expect that as a Jarisch Herxheimer reaction (biotoxins due to bacterial die off). Prescription was extended to 2 months; at 1 month, symptoms were worse to the point of not being able to walk easily or grip anything heavy. By the end of 2 months, I was 80% better (though still with lingering symptoms). Effective."

Oracea (doxycycline) for Rosacea "LOVE LOVE LOVE Oracea! 2 weeks and I already notice a great improvement in my eyes. I have mild rosacea on my face (red nose sometimes) but it was the ocular rosacea that prompted me to seek help. I thought my eyes were just red from my contacts but my ophthalmologist said it was ocular rosacea. I was devastated- I do not want to lose my vision! So far, so good- my eyes feel 100% better, my stress level is down & I'm starting to feel "normal" again! I guess I'm lucky because I haven't experienced any of the side effects (yet). Hopefully it'll stay that way. Oracea is my new best friend."

For Lyme Disease "I’m 22 and in mid-August I started feeling fatigued & lightheaded out of nowhere. It lasted for days & just wasn’t getting any better. I’d feel it from the second I woke up to when I went back to sleep at night. Just felt overall drained and sort of a brain-fog. I had been hiking a lot in the summer too due to COVID. After telling my Mom (who has Lyme disease) my symptoms she suggested getting regular bloodwork done but also a blood test for Lymes. Thank goodness she suggested that Lymes test because otherwise I wouldn’t have known I had it and it’s key to catch Lymes early. Tested positive for a recent infection & got put on Doxycycline- 2 pills a day for 3 weeks. It took time but very slowly I started to feel better. Now it’s been 3 months since I took Doxi and I don’t really have those daily symptoms of fatigue and lightheadedness anymore. I recommend eating a granola bar when taking in the morning because it did make me feel sick on an empty stomach."

For Bronchitis "Before I begin, let me tell you I have no allergies and seldom get more than a cold. Somehow I got a bacterial sinus infection. The doc prescribed Augmentin 875, had terrible reactions to that beastly drug, then the infection went to Bronchitis. Doc prescribed Prednisone. That didn't clear it up. Then he prescribed the 5 day Z-pack. After 10 days I still had the cough so I called and asked for another dose and instead he prescribed the Doxy 100mg 2 a day for 10 days. Yippee! I am on day 6 and almost completely cured but the phlegm has been very gradually getting out of my airways. I don't care for the nausea, especially when it kicks in, but the rest is tolerable. A little food an hour beforehand helps me. I think this is a pretty good drug."

Doryx (doxycycline) for Acne "I am 37. After my last child was born, I started getting these really deep, painful pimples all around my mouth and nose. According to the dermatologist I have a type of acne that's actually some kind of hybrid between rosacea and acne. The pustules hurt so much and they looked so gross. I was wearing a ton of makeup to hide them but even with all the cover up, you could still see my skin looked terrible with huge bumps and crusted over scabs from the ones I popped. I tried all sorts of OTC stuff before I finally went to the dermatologist. He put me on Doryx and within a week, the pustules were all gone and I have not had any new ones in the two months since I started this medication. I can't believe how quickly, and how well, it worked."

For Bacterial Infection "I experienced horrible side effects including headaches, swelling and tightness in face, swollen and sore throat, dizziness and lightheadedness, body aches, thirst, racing heart, insomnia, shallow breathing. It almost felt like flu symptoms. Symptoms went away 12 hours after I stopped taking it, but headache is lingering still. I never want to experience that again. Absolutely horrible."

For Lyme Disease "I've been on doxycycline for about a week now for a bout of Lyme disease and other than some moderate to severe drowsiness (which may be - and is - part of the disease, but does get more severe when I take the antibiotic), and being absolutely unable to take it on an empty stomach (to do so results in nausea and, worse case, vomiting), I have to say I'm feeling much better quite quickly. If taken with food, I have no side-effects whatsoever. One of the best and most mild antibiotics I've had to take."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "Fought off a sinus infection that went into my chest and turned into bronchitis. I absolutely hate taking antibiotics, but after a couple months with a bad cough, which was actually starting to go away, I developed pleurisy. I had decided I would have to go see the Doc. He prescribed me this and an anti-inflammatory. It started working on the second day and by day seven it was gone. I did not have any side effects. I had never taken this before, so might be why it worked so fast because I thought the pain was going to kill me."

For Bacterial Infection "I had an ear infection and was prescribed this medication doxycycline. The first day was fine but then I developed severe pressure in my head to the point where I had to switch medications. I would NOT recommend this drug and a warning to people this medication can cause high blood pressure in the brain. Terrible drug. Terrible. Hence the score of a 1 I would have rated it a zero. I know if you have nothing nice to say don't say it all but this is a warning for people that this can happen and I wouldn't want anyone to go through this."

For Bacterial Infection "I have had a sinus infection for 3 years now, plus Upper respiratory infection and ear infections during the really bad times. I was cultured with Staph A. and Pseudomonas that was resistant to a lot of the antibotics except doxycycline and Augmentin but I'm allergic to penicillin so doxycycline it is. 100mg 2xday and the first few days it is hard because everything is dying and my sinuses are draining like crazy but its the only things that's working. Don't lay down for an hr after taking the pill, it did burn my throat horribly but I have not had any other side effects from it except the sun sensitivity. I think this is a small price to pay to feel better and get my life back especially since the chronic fatigue from the constant infection is severe."

For Chlamydia Infection "Listen. I’m here to solve everyone’s questions, wonders and everything. I’m an average that does what every male does. Mess around! Ended up catching chlamydia from someone, knew who it was and I’ve learned my lesson. Before taking this medicine understand that EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. I saw people say symptoms stopped in 3 days, 4 days even 2 days well that wasn’t the case for me. It took me taking the full dosage for the full 7 days for the symptoms to actually fade and go away. I was just like a few others, had minor symptoms before taking them when I started symptoms came flying out of nowhere. Don’t be scared! It’ll get worse before it gets better. Take your full dosage, eat before you take it and I promise you you’ll be fine. Hope this helped everyone out, be safe, wear condoms!"

For Acne "I have been taking the doxycycline for about 1 week now consistently and I have seen tremendous change. One thing about is medication is that you must have patience. It will get worse before it gets better! In addition to taking the doxycycline I also used adapalene to control the breakouts that the doxycycline pushes out. This is coming from someone that has dealt with acne for years and has never found anything that works."

For Chlamydia Infection "I got a wonderful text from an ex-partner telling me he had tested positive for Chlamydia. I bought 1g of Azithromycin online as I didn't have time to go to the clinic and I had had 2 irregular periods. By the end of the week I didn't feel right, had burning urine, which was new so I ordered 7 days of Doxycycline 100mg. These are brilliant as long as you strictly follow the instructions! Don't eat Dairy with them, no multi vitamins or indigestion remedies. Don't take less than an hour before bed and make sure you eat something with them!! Side effects for me were nausea if I didn't eat, a headache (manageable) and heartburn if I didn't drink enough water through the day. Burning pee cleared by day2, discharge by day4."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I'm a smoker(20 a day roughly) got given 100mg to be taken twice on the first day and one every other on a seven day course. I was actually originally given this for a STI not a chest infection that I didn't really notice I had, however the second day of taking thought I was almost dying with flu symptoms and a terrible cough but stuck at it with plenty of good food and water. The second night when the coughing was worst got hardly any sleep and shivered plus sweating and had loads of blankets on etc. Third day coughing was still there but not even half as bad and just got better and better day by day, cleared my lungs and can breathe amazing now and STI gone did make my gums a bit sour and felt a slight burning sensation in the lungs."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I have aggressive RA and was put on doxycycline by a doctor and was supposed to take uptake inhibitor and prednisone at the same time. After reading negative comments about prednisone decided to take doxycycline alone. Within 3 days I started to get some relief and by 6 days it was much more. My next appointment with doctor was at 7 days but I was not able to get there. I split pills in half to last till appointment. When I told doctor I felt much better from doxycycline he said no evidence suggests it is helpful. I had already done research online and knew this was not true. I found a source that gave me doxycycline. Roadback.org suggested 3 times a week 100mgs, Monday Wednesday Friday, I'm still hanging in there "

For Bacterial Infection "My Doctor prescribed me this doxycycline antibiotic orally 100mg for MRSA after the first two antibiotics failed (some sort of penicillins). The doxycycline has managed to fade the MRSA boils but not completely eradicate the infection. The side effects are by far the worst I’ve ever experienced from any other drug I’ve taken. From dizziness, nausea and the worst of all the pressure it causes in your head. My whole 10 days on this drug has consisted of being in bed or lying on my couch with anxiety from side effects. I wouldn’t recommend this drug to my worst enemy."
