"My left femur broke spontaneously after taking Fosamax for 10 years. It was rodded. 3 months later I had pain in my right femur. X-ray showed a stress fracture. I had prophylactic rodding as indicated. I HADN'T HAD EITHER OSTEOPOROSIS OR OSTEOPENIA. It was given to me by a male doctor who automatically prescribed it TO "women of a certain age". At the time I started this drug there were no warnings about ill effects. Only AFTER my taking it for 10 years did the warnings appear. They stated that Fosamax is effective for 3-5 years. Too late for me. Bisphosphonates are now deemed to stay in one's system for years. I preach against the careless prescription of bisphosphonates and have alerted many women - whose femurs are still intact. BE WARY OF ALL bisphosphonates."
