our 5 year old, just cant swallow the tablets and the liquid isnt funded and would cost us in excess of $1000 per month. The pharmacist told me to crush it with something nice (we use peanut butter) and she can have it that way..But I noticed it says on the advise slip DO NOT CRUSH OR CHEW?
She has tried with no effect Epilim, Tegretol, and Lamotrogine so we are getting desperate... any advice?
Why cant we crush or chew Levetiracetam (keppra)?

Crushing or chewing the tablet may cause a bitter taste. It is indeed a good idea to mask the bitterness of the tabs by adding peanut butter or any other medium which could be easily taken by the child.
Usually extended release tabs/pills are not recommended to be crushed or chewed. Doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects, it is recommended to swallow the whole or split tablet without crushing or chewing.
Maybe the doc who prescribed the med could suggest an alternate which would be more compilable, please do seek a second opinion.
