In the package insert, male infertility is indicated as a possible side effect of the drug. On the other hand, it is known as an anti-oxidant, which may be beneficial for fertility. Thus, should allopurinol be avoided by men who have low sperm quality or the other way round?

Uses
Allopurinol (Zyloprim) is a prescription medication approved for preventing:
Gout attacks
High uric acid levels due to cancer treatment
Prevent elevation of blood uric acid in patients undergoing chemotherapy for the treatment of certain cancers and in patients with recurrent calcium kidney stones.
This drug is not used to treat male infertility.-It is a drug used primarily to treat hyperuricemia (excess uric acid in blood plasma) and its complications, including chronic gout.
Off-Label Allopurinol Uses
Mouth sores due to chemotherapy (used in a mouthwash form)
Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate gland)
Leishmaniasis (a parasitic infection)

Thanks. Actually, the indications are well known. The question was whether and how the drug causes infertility, rather than whether it is used for treatment thereof.

Ok, No one has all the answers, I do not..I am here to help as much as I can I am a humble person, in this support group we are friends we are a virtual family, we do not try and prove who knows more or less... I do not care about the points.
