Magnesium Citrate - I downed a 10 fl oz bottle 6 hours ago. Nothing has happened. Why???

I have chronic and severe constipation, so I have to take magnesium pretty often. There were times that I would only go once, and if I'm lucky twice every two to three weeks. It'll work eventually, but I like to down another bottle the next day to be safe. Be sure to chug water, and a lot of water or else it won't work. Usually I drink just under a half gallon of o.j. or water after.

You want to drink a lot of water with mag citrate. It can be dehydrating especially if it gives you severe diarrhea. I try half a bottle and wait several hours, cause my experience is it can take as long as overnight for things to break loose especially if you're impacted and the feces are still high up in the intestine. Just take it easy and try and relax cause it can take time.

I was starting to get worried, it took me 4 hrs exactly. The cramping and bloating was terrible. I had not went for 4 days at least, I don't know how anyone could go a week or more.
Next time if there is and this happens to me a lot I'm going to make sure I drink more water and less soda pop.

I had 2 bouts of serious constipation, both for 7 days. On the second one, my Dr, took an X-ray and told me to go home and take one mag citrate and a suppository for 2 straight days. Did it the first day and nothing happened. Second day I felt bloated and sick. Took the second mag citrate and waited about 3 hours and then did the suppository. And then the flood gates opened. So be ready. If that had not worked I probably would have went to the ER. But number one rule is, talk to a Dr and make sure they know what's going on with you.

Try a liquid glycerin suppository.

Be patient :) I often have no relief or movement until the next morning. It depends if you have been backed up for awhile as well but when it starts working, I'm cleaned out. Give it until the morning. If nothing, I've been instructed to drink another bottle but you should check with the pharmacist if you can't get ahold of your doctor. I've taken in when I've had nothing in 7 days. I don't wait that long anymore as I now use Relistor as my emergency go to med. Hope you feel better soon.
