I had a seizure and collapsed. They found a brain tumour in the hospital. I had surgery to remove a benign meningioma from the frontal lobe. The operation was ten weeks ago. I am taking 500mg Keppra twice daily. How long will I have to continue taking this for ? I do not have epilepsy.
How long will I have to take Keppra after craniotomy for benign meningioma ?

How does this generally work? I had a benign meningioma removed 3 weeks ago now and have been on Keppra for a month and was just transitioned to Vimpat yesterday due to the anxiety from Keppra. I have had 0 seizures post surgery and 2 partial pre surgery fully due to the meningioma inflammation.
My husband had a right frontal lobe benign meningioma removed 3/29/17. It was discovered after he was having partial/simple seizures about twice a month for several months. He had one similar seizure the morning after his 10 hour surgery. He was on Keppra before the surgery at 1000/day, and put on it after the surgery at 2000 mg/day. He tapered down to no Keppra at all at the surgeon's instructions, as the surgeon has seen many cases like my husband's and felt chances were slim he would have a seizure. On the other hand, the neurologist feels he should go back on the Keppra at 1000 mg/day, even though he has had no seizures since March 30th (so 2-1/2 months now) and his recent EEG was normal. Since you asked this question over a year ago, I am wondering how things worked out for you and hope you are well.
I've had two operations for meningiomas. First one in 2013 left frontal lobe. I had seizures from it like you. My neurosurgeon from Shands in FL said it was protocol for you to stay on it a year after surgery. However, the surgery I just had for one behind my left eye on June 24th did not cause any seizures so same surgeon told me I could wean off starting at six weeks after. I weaned off completely today!!!
