The Pharmacist got the Dr. to agree to put me on the suspension (liquid) which is much harder to take than pills. She said the couldn't get pills as they were not available in the market. I see pictures of Carafate tabs shown on the internet. Is she wrong about their availability in the U.S.?
I was prescribed Carafate tablets and the Pharmacist (CVS) said it wasn't available on the market?

I'm not sure that there is a shortage. Try contacting another pharmacist.

Both CVS and Medco claim they can't get it; however, I heard some of the other drug stores have it. (Well I am on liquid now for at least a month.)

I had started with the liquid and then went to the pills because they were cheaper... for me this was a mistake because my gastritus was not completely healed so it came back in a big way. Took the pills for several months then went for a refill Medco Pharmacy said there was a nationwide shortage of the generic pills, but if I was willing to pay $300 plus for a 90 day supply they could fill it. Went to Rite Aide and got it as a generic but the pharmacist there did say there had been a shortage. Unfortunately I just kept getting sicker and sicker so went back on the liquid four times a day, 2 tsp each. It is tricky and have to get your schedule just right to take it before meals or much after a meal. It takes a while for it to heal, but the liquid is the only thing that will heal my gastritus, the tablet is only a maintenance drug... wish I had known that. It takes about 6 to 8 weeks with the liquid to heal completely, I've only been on it about 4 weeks, getting better slowly.

Thank you this is very helpful. I am now using the liquid and it's not so bad but expensive and you are right. It is hard to schedule it just right to be able to take your other meds and eat at the right time. thanks for taking the time and your answer is very helpful
