Following intravenous or oral administration of an immediate-release formulation, the elimination half-life of Tamsulosin hydrochloride in plasma ranged from 5 to 7 hours. This is the time it takes for your body to reduce plasma drug levels by half .
Because of absorption rate-controlled pharmacokinetics with Tamsulosin hydrochloride capsules, the apparent half-life of Tamsulosin hydrochloride is approximately 9 to 13 hours in healthy volunteers and 14 to 15 hours in the target population.
How fast tamsulosin is cleared from your system may depend on whether you take the immediate release or controlled release preparations.
As a general guide medicine is cleared from ones system in 5.5 x elimination hours. So if we took the maximum elimination half life as 15 hours, then tamsulosin should be cleared in 82.5 (83) hours.
However other factors to consider include:
1. How much and how often you have taken the drug.
2. Your metabolic rate – a slower metabolism will increase the time a drug remains in your system.
3. Your age and health – older age and poor health will generally increase the time the drug stays in your system.
4. Body mass – generally the bigger you are the longer a drug will remain in your system.

I started getting real dizzy and almost passed out. I stopped taking it 4 days ago and still have some dizziness and headaches.

I was prescribed tamsulosin for kidney stones, ( 4 week course, by hospital no discussion on Side effects etc )already use viagra for erectile Dysfunction ( as and when needed ) took for one week only, as have absolutely no trouble urinating, drinking lots to flush the stones out, may still be there, pain only slight now, when in hospital I was screaming in pain. Trouble is I now can’t get an erection, even with 100mg viagra, when will I be back to normal ?

Taking for 30 days, informed by my doctor I will have retrograde ejaculation for approximately two weeks after I stop taking it

I believe that after you stop taking Tamsulosin, it stays in your system for a full 7 days after stopping taking it.
So if your experiencing side effects of this medication..those side effects will still be there and happen because the pill is still in your body for 7 days..even after you stop taking the pill.
It can take a while for this medication to fully leave your body.
It depends on your age, weight & psychical health.

I took only one capsule last night at bedtime after having a catheter to drain my bladder as I have been retaining way to much urine. I’m 85 years young and when I got up this morning I was very very sick to my stomach had lots of nausea pain weak and developed the chills after sitting on the toilet for 10 minutes. My wife came in to help and I passed out. Eventually got enough strength to get back in bed for several hours. Been up in a chair most of this day cause I still feel very weak and chilled at times. I’ve are a decent dinner but still feel very sick. How long does it take for one this tamsulosin capsule out of my system.

I stopped taking this medication about 2 days ago and still experiencing all the side effects of Tamsulosin 0.4MG. I am still having extreme Dizziness and Lightheadedness,Chest Pains & Chest Tightness, Feeling like fainting & Muscle Weakness. I am trying to get this medication out of my system as soon as possible. I took it for Kidney Stones but now I feel like it's taking forever to come out of my system... I maybe took it for about 1 week when I was on it. I am a 21 year old female and average weight. It's causing me so much anxiety and panic attacks.
You'll still feel all the horrible side effects after stopping this medication.
All I can say is the dizziness might not stop..even after you stop taking the medication it's self. Just be super careful with this medication.

Been taking 20mg Flomax for 3 months. One of the side effects is retrograde ejaculation. Yup!

This answer is for Edward. Yes one of the side effects of Flomax is called retrograde ejaculation. Semen is released into the bladder Instead of going out of your penis. It may also take longer to reach climax than without Flomax.

I see you posted your question some time ago, but I just started taking tamsulosin about three months ago and was really wondering the same thing.
I found out through my pharmacist that there is no immediate release, it only comes in controlled release and that the drug stays in your body for 5 days. It does decrease over the 5 days. I would think as with all drugs if you miss a dose do not ever double up, just continue as normal
