What is the difference between Meloxicam and Ibuprofen?

Hello stephfayard39, My doctor has prescribed Meloxicam 15mg for my osteoarthritis and it is very effective for me! Ibuprofen does not help much, it can cause upset stomach & liver problems in the long term. I have taking Meloxicam for quite a long time now (it is to be taken w/food). Speak with your doctor regarding this issue!

I was on the full dose of 15 mg per day slow release for osteoarthritis and necrosis. With that I cannot take any other anti inflammatory drugs. I found meloxicam to give me great relief. My surgeon will only let me do 3 months on and 3 months off. Long term it can cause liver damage. I’m off at the moment and certainly feel the difference! Mind you, am coping well still on ibuprofen and am managing on a low dose, but still need some extra pain relief most days, especially at night. Hope this helps. Lisa

I do believe they are in the same class of drugs, however Meloxicam is much more effective at treating moderate to severe pain with one dose, and no extra fillers. I personally take it and it is great for my neck pain. I was in a car accident and my neck has been a mess since.

Meloxicam is easier on the stomach than Ibuprofen. That is the biggest difference, since they are both nonsteroidals' they work the same. However be careful and always always consult you Dr. because Meloxicam is a little harder on you than ibuprofen if you are on BP meds. It thins the blood, so if you are on a Blood thinner it will increase its affect and my be dangerous.
