Colchicine first doze is 1.2mg followed by 0.6 mg after 12 hours and then once daily at 0.6mg.
Allopurinol given at 100mg daily.
The combination was intended for severe gout attack.
What should be avoided when taking this drug combination?
Will the combination of allopurinal and colchicine be effective without pegloticase?

People took this combo for years with some getting relief and some not so much. Its something that has to be tried before moving on to the very expensive recombinant dna pegloticase. kaismama, is it really necessary to take 0.6mg colchicine first until you have diarrhea or vomitting before starting the 100mg allopurinol medication? If so, what is the relevance of waiting for those symptoms to appear before proceeding to the 100mg allopurinol medication. Honestly, I'm giving your answer much weight since you've been a practicing nurse for a long time.

jeremiahzayin,,, Did the doctor give this to you as one pill,,or is this the 2 pill combination.. in one... What is normal is you only talk the colchicine 0.6 until you start having diaarhea etc,,THEN you stop the colchicine and maintaine the gout with allopurinol 100mg daily and keep on hand some colchicine for flair ups to get it back in control... NOW IF THE DOCTOR GAVE YOU A PILL THAT HAS BOTH MEDS IN IT YOU JUST TAKE THE ONE PILL THEY CAN BE TAKEN TOGETHER BY PEOPLE THAT HAVE TO MUCH URIC ACID IN THERE SYSTEM WHICH IS THE GOUT FEEL FREE TO ASK AGAIN IT IS SAFE to take both but most doctors do it this way..CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU ARE MORE CONFUSED. IF you want to check with a doctor.most don't take allopurinol other than to get the gout under control then swith to allopurinol 100 to 300mg daily in the morning and you must have blood test. chuck1957

in a nut shell YES ON YOUR QUESTION but taken the way i said colchicine first then allopurinol is all you need... see a doctor soon please take the colchicine until diarrhea or and vomiting starts then switch to allopurinol..and hold off on the colchicine for the next bout... check with a doctor or pharmicist..

Well glad i could help and its always good to know your meds and how they work,with luck after the colchicine you won't have to use it that often... just to get through the worst part of the Gout not fun my friend..
