Uniprim Oral Powder Dosage And Administration
The usual dose of UNIPRIM® Oral Powder for horses, ponies and foals is 3.75g per 50kg. The contents of one scoop/packet (37.5g) is sufficient to treat 500kg liveweight. This dose provides 30mg/kg bodyweight of active ingredient daily.
The powder should be mixed with a small amount of palatable feed. UNIPRIM® Oral Powder is palatable but if the treated horse does not consume the medication completely, then parenteral or individual oral dosage with an alternative product should be considered.
Treatment should be given once daily until 2-3 days after the animal becomes asymptomatic. The usual course of treatment is for not longer than 7 consecutive days.
Horses may be treated using the powder alone, or alternatively, therapy can be initiated with Trimethoprim/Sulphadiazine Injection and followed by daily administration of UNIPRIM® Oral Powder.
UNIPRIM® Oral Powder should not be used in horses showing marked liver parenchymal damage or blood dyscrasias, nor in those with a history of sulphonamide sensitivity.
UNIPRIM® Oral Powder should not be administered to pregnant mares as the effects of this product, when used as recommended, on the unborn foal have not been determined.
Treated animals must not be slaughtered for use in food for at least 7 days after the latest treatment with this drug.
