LIQUID MIXING AND FEEDING DIRECTIONS

TO MEASURE: Measure both the Ultra 24 powder and the water using an 8 fluid ounce measuring cup, not included in bag.

NOTE! Dry powder is much lighter than water, so the same cup that holds 8 fluid ounces of water only holds 3.5 dry ounces (approx. 100 grams) of milk replacer powder by weight. Weigh milk replacer powder for best accuracy.

TO MIX: Sprinkle milk replacer powder on top of warm water (115-120° F) and stir with a whisk until completely dissolved. Cool the milk replacer solution to body temperature before feeding. Refrigerate extra milk replacer solution promptly and use within 24 hours. Re-warm cold milk replacer gently in the feeding bottle by floating it in a pan of warm water. Mix thoroughly and test the temperature before feeding.

IMPORTANT: Every animal is an individual. The amounts fed may need to be adjusted to support optimal body condition and growth. Animals may need additional feed during cold weather. Consult with your veterinarian or animal nutritionist if you have questions.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR NEWBORN ANIMALS:

Newborns should receive colostrum in the first day of life, before being fed milk replacer. Colostrum is the first milk from the mother following birth, providing nutrients that are essential to the newborn’s health and growth. If the mother’s colostrum is of high quality but in short supply, feed a colostrum supplement in addition to maternal colostrum. If the mother’s colostrum is not available or is not usable (dirty or contaminated, or the mother is disease positive), use a colostrum replacer (Ultra Start® Multi Colostrum Supplement). For calves, we recommend Say-A-Caf® Colostrum Supplement. For animals that develop scours (diarrhea) or need support during hot weather or other stress, use an electrolyte supplement (Electrolytes Plus™).

ANIMAL / MIXING DIRECTIONS

AGE

FEEDING DIRECTIONS

CALF

Mix 3 cups (10.5 dry oz) of powder into 2 quarts of water.

First 24 hours

Feed ONLY COLOSTRUM - no milk replacer. Feed 2 to 3 quarts of colostrum every 8 to 12 hours. Note: On days 2 to 4 add 2 level tbsp (powder) of multi species colostrum supplement to each milk replacer feeding.

2 Days until weaning

Feed 1 1/2 to 3 quarts of milk replacer twice daily (adjust for body weight). Offer calf starter feed and fresh water free choice (no hay until after weaning). Wean from milk replacer at 6 to 12 weeks of age, when the calf is healthy and dry starter feed intake is at least 2 pounds per day.

FOAL

Mix 1 cup (3.5 dry oz) of powder into 3 cups (24 fluid oz) of water.

Mixing tip: the ratio is 1 part powder to 3 parts water by volume.

Note: Amounts suggested are for a light breed foal that will mature at about 1000 lbs. Pony foals will require about half and draft foals may require up to twice the amounts listed. Adjust as needed for body weight.

First 24 hours

Feed ONLY COLOSTRUM - no milk replacer. Offer 1 cup (8 fluid ounces, about 240 mL) of colostrum every 1 to 2 hours. Note: On days 2 to 4 add 2 level tbsp (powder) of multi species colostrum supplement to each milk replacer feeding.

BABY PIG

Mix 3/4 cup (2.63 dry oz) of powder into 2 cups (16 fluid oz) of water.
