Manufacturer: Ceva Biomune

Salmonella typhimurium Bacterin

U.S. Vet. Lic. No.: 368

Contents: SAL BAC® is an inactivated bacterial vaccine adjuvanted with aluminum hydroxide. It also contains a patented biological adjuvant (U.S. Patent No. 4,789,544) which acts as an immune enhancer to ensure the level of response to vaccination and provide long-lasting immunity. The bacterin contains three antigenic strains of Salmonella typhimurium, the most common species of Salmonella identified in cases of Paratyphoid in pigeons. Paratyphoid (Salmonellosis) is a devastating and fatal disease of pigeons. Clinical expression of the disease varies from a septicemic form displaying diarrhea, depression and nervous disorders to an articular form characterized by swelling of joints, dropped wings or lameness.

Sal Bac Indications

SAL BAC® is indicated for use an aid in the prevention of paratyphoid infection attributed to Salmonella typhimurium in pigeons.

Dosage and Administration

Young birds may be vaccinated at weaning age. Two vaccinations are recommended 3-4 weeks apart. Vaccinations should be completed at least 2-3 weeks prior to racing or showing or the onset of egg production. Thereafter, boosters are recommended semi-annually to annually depending on risk of infection.

Vaccination is accomplished by using a syringe and small gauge needle to inject 0.5 mL of bacterin subcutaneously at the base of the neck and midline at the level of the shoulders in the direction away from the head and toward the base of the neck. Withdraw slightly on the syringe plunger prior to injection to ensure that delivery of bacterin is not into a blood vessel. Caution should be taken to administer this product at shoulder level and not higher up on the back of the neck to avoid an extensive venous plexus present in pigeons. Aseptic technique should be followed using alcohol to clean the injection site and a new sterile syringe and needle between each bird.

Precaution(s): Shake well before using and use entire contents when first opened. Multidose vials should be discarded after initial use regardless of the remaining contents in the vial. Store in a refrigerator at 35°-45°F.

Caution(s): Vaccinate only healthy birds. In case of anaphylactic reaction administer epinephrine or atropine sulfate.

This bacterin has been carefully produced and has undergone purity, sterility, safety, efficacy and potency tests to meet Biomune requirements and USDA regulations.

Warning(s): Do not vaccinate within 21 days of slaughter.

Presentation: 50 dose and 100 dose vials.
