Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride is an antibiotic similar to tetracycline and chlortetracycline in bacterial spectrum. Oxytetracycline is rapidly absorbed and effective in the treatment of many diseases due to Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, spirochetes, rickettsia and some chlamydia.
Oxysol-62.5 Indications
As an aid in the treatment of infections caused by or associated with microorganisms sensitive to oxytetracycline hydrochloride.
Chickens: Chronic respiratory disease (CRD), cholera and enteritis.
Turkeys: Cholera, enteritis, hexamitiasis and secondary infections associated with bluecomb.
Swine, calves, sheep and lambs: Enteritis (diarrhea) and respiratory diseases.
Bees: American foul brood and European foul brood.
Dosage and Administration
To reduce the development of antimicrobial resistance and maintain effectiveness, use this antibiotic prudently.
Chickens and turkeys: Dissolve 4 g of powder per 5 L of drinking water or 400 g (1 pouch) of powder per 500 L of drinking water and give for 3 to 5 days.
Swine (scours and respiratory diseases): Dissolve 4 g of powder per 25 kg of body weight every 12 hours, given as a drench in water using a dose syringe or 8 g of powder per 4 L of drinking water or 400 g (1 pouch) of powder per 200 L of drinking water, for 4 or 5 days.
Calves (scours): Dissolve 4 g of powder per 50 kg of body weight every 12 hours, given as a drench in water or 400 g (1 pouch) of powder per 225 L of drinking water, for 3 to 5 days.
Calves (respiratory diseases): Double the above dosage for 3 to 5 days.
Sheep and lambs (scours and respiratory diseases): Dissolve 4 g of powder per 25 kg of body weight every 12 hours, given as a drench in water for 4 or 5 days.
Bees: Prevention and control:
Dusting: Add 4 g of powder to 35 g of powdered sugar or 400 g (1 pouch) of powder to 3.5 kg (total of 3.9 kg). Apply the mixture on the outer parts or ends of the frames at the rate of 32 g per colony.
Syrup: Dissolve 4 g of powder in a small quantity of water with 3 kg of a one part sugar, one part water or 400 g (1 pouch) of powder per 300 kg of the 1:1 syrup mixture. Bulk feed the syrup at the rate of 2.5 kg per colony using feeder pails or division board feeders or by filling the combs.
For both the above methods, usually 3 applications at 4 or 5-day intervals are required in the spring and/or fall at least 4 weeks before the main honey flow to prevent contamination of marketable honey.
CAUTIONS: Honey from bee colonies likely to be infected with foul brood should not be used for preparation of medicated syrup supplements since it may be contaminated with spores of foul brood and may result in spreading the disease.
NOTE: Only medicated drinking water should be provided during the treatment period and fresh solutions should be prepared daily. 1 teaspoonful equals 4 g. The measuring cup contained herein (10 kg), when filled with a level quantity, provides approximately 200 g of product.
STORAGE CONDITIONS: Store between 15°C and 25°C. Protect from moisture.
