Caustic Dehorning Paste Indications
For use as an aid to prevent horn growth and remove horn buttons on calves.
Directions For Use
With shears or clippers, remove the hair over the horn buttons. Using petrolatum or any petrolatum based ointment, apply a ring around the button area. This will stop the paste from running off the horn button. Shake the Caustic Dehorning Paste bottle well. Remove the top and apply a thin film with a wood applicator on the horn buttons as soon as they can be felt. Two to three drops should be sufficient. Isolate the treated calves for 30 minutes to prevent paste removal by rubbing. Protect calves from rain and snow for 6 hours to allow the paste to penetrate. Repeat only as directed by a veterinarian.
Cautions: Keep away from all parts of the animal except the horn buttons. Should the Caustic Dehorning Paste be applied too heavily and running results, wash the areas contacted with plenty of water and then vinegar. This will stop the corrosion caused by the paste and neutralize its activity. In case of bleeding, apply Hemo-Stat Powder or administer Vitamin K. These will aid clotting of the blood. Should the bleeding persist, consult your veterinarian.
