DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Bayvarol strips are intended for in-hive use for control of parasitic mites (Varroa destructor) on honey bees. Normally developed colonies receive a maximum of four strips per brood chamber. Nuclei and young colonies and newly collected swarms receive two strips.
Remove honey supers before application of Bayvarol strips Just before application, remove the required number of Bayvarol strips from the pouch(es). Unused strips should remain in original packaging.
Distribute strips over the central bee space in each brood chamber. Strips are suspended into the spaces between frames in the central brood rearing area in such a way that they can be occupied by bees on both sides. Both tabs are bent outwards in the same direction at the marked fold lines and hooked over the top edge of the wooden frame (see Fig. 1).
For large colonies occupying more than one brood chamber, strips can be joined together end-to-end which enables their insertion into and removal from the bee spaces without having to separate the brood chambers (see Fig. 2).
Strips are not to be used during honey flow periods. Remove Bayvarol Strips from the colonies after a six week (42-day) treatment period.
Best efficacy is to be expected when Bayvarol Strips are used in late summer after the honey harvest. To ensure effective treatment, varroa mites should be monitored for resistance prior to applying Bayvarol strips.
RESISTANCE MANAGEMENT RECOMMENDATIONS
For resistance management, please note that Bayvarol Beehive Pest Control Strip contains a Group 3 insecticide. Any insect population may contain individuals naturally resistant to Bayvarol Beehive Pest Control Strip and other Group 3 insecticides. The resistant individuals may dominate the insect population if this group of insecticides is used repeatedly in the same location.
Other resistance mechanisms that are not linked to site of action but are specific for individual chemicals, such as enhanced metabolism, may also exist. Appropriate resistance-management strategies should be followed.
To delay insecticide resistance:
● Where possible, rotate the use of Bayvarol Beehive Pest Control Strip or other Group 3 insecticides with different groups that control the same pests.
● Insecticide use should be based on an IPM program that includes scouting, record keeping, and considers cultural, biological and other chemical control practices.
● Correctly identify the pest and ensure economic and agronomic thresholds are met before treatment.
● Monitor treated pest populations for resistance development.
● Contact your local extension specialist or certified crop advisors for any additional pesticide resistance-management and/or IPM recommendations for the specific site and pest problems in your area.
● For further information or to report suspected resistance contact Bayer Inc., Animal Health via the internet at www.animalhealth.bayer.ca or phone at 1 888 663 5326.
