Directions For Use

FOWL POX VACCINE, LIVE VIRUS

For use in animals only

Recommendation for use:

This product is a live virus vaccine of chicken embryo origin manufactured from SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) eggs for use as an aid in the prevention of fowl pox in healthy chickens. When administered to susceptible chickens, a mild form of the disease results, which stimulates immunity.

Vaccinate chickens at 5 weeks of age or older using the wing web method. Apply 1 dose (0.01 mL) of vaccine per bird.

Preparation of vaccine for wing web application:

1000 doses - rehydrate with 10 mL diluent provided.

Remove the overseal and stopper from the vaccine bottle and pour part of the diluent into the vaccine bottle. Replace the stopper, shake well and pour the vaccine back into the remaining diluent in the diluent vial and shake vigorously. The vaccine is now ready for use.

Method Of Vaccination:

Vaccination is accomplished by dipping the double needle in the mixed vaccine and piercing the “web of the wing” from the underside. Do not apply through feathers, muscle or bone. The applicator must be re-dipped between each application. Chickens from the flock should be examined for evidence of a ‘take’ to ensure that the vaccine was applied properly. The evidence of a successful vaccination will appear at the point of vaccination within 7 to 10 days after vaccination. Brownish, black scabs will be found on both the under and upper surfaces of the web of the wing through which the needle vaccination was thrust.

Precautions

Store at 2° to 8°C (35° to 46°F).

Vaccinate only healthy birds.

All susceptible chickens on a farm should be vaccinated at the same time.

If this is not possible, individual lots may be vaccinated if strict isolation and separate caretakers are provided for the vaccinated and unvaccinated lots of chickens.

Use entire contents when a vial is first opened.

Inactivate unused contents before disposal.

Do not mix with other products, except as specified on the label.

Keep permanent vaccination records, including vaccine serial number.

Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.

Contains gentamicin as a preservative.

Care should be taken to avoid contaminating hands, eyes and clothing with the vaccine.

In case of human exposure, contact a physician.
