®

Surgical Scrub

Videne Surgical Scrub is an all-purpose
antiseptic for topical use.
Active ingredient: Povidone-Iodine USP
7.5% w/w (0.75% w/w available iodine)
Other ingredients: Alkyl Phenol Ether
Sulphate (Ammonium Salt), Glycerin BP,
Cocos Fatty Acid Diethenolamide,
Povidone K90, Citric Acid, Anhydrous
Sodium Phosphate, Purified Water BP.
Videne Surgical Scrub may be used for
pre-operative hand disinfection by the
surgical team, or for disinfecting the site of
the operation prior to surgery.

PRE-OPERATIVE HAND
DISINFECTION: After first wetting
the hands and arms with water,
approximately 3.5ml of Videne
Surgical Scrub is applied and
rubbed thoroughly onto these
areas. A brush may be used to
scrub the nails. A little water is
added to develop a lather and
finally this is rinsed off with
running water. Various dispensers
which are designed to deliver
3.5ml of the surgical scrub are
available from the manufacturers.
SKIN DISINFECTION PRIOR TO
SURGERY: The site of incision
should be washed with Videne
Surgical Scrub two or three times
a day for at least two days prior to
the operation. Immediately before
surgery the skin should be
moistened with water, Videne
Surgical Scrub applied and
rubbed thoroughly into the area
for several minutes. A sterile
gauze swab is used to develop a
lather, which is finally rinsed off
with water. ONLY WATER should
be used to dilute videne surgical
scrub.
There are no special dosage
recommendations for children or
elderly patients.
Do not use If you are allergic to
any of the ingredients listed.
Do not use if pregnant as iodine

may be absorbed through skin and
may affect thyroid tests carried out
on your baby.
Do not use if breastfeeding or on
newborn babies.

Action to be taken if
swallowed:

In the event of oral ingestion seek
medical attention.

Take care:

If you get this product in your eye,
cleanse with a large quantity of
running water and seek medical
attention.
Preparations containing
Povidone-Iodine may temporarily
discolour some precious metals
and permanently stain rhodium
plated white gold.

Side-effects:

In very rare instances Videne
Surgical Scrub may produce skin
reactions to iodine-sensitive
subjects. These reactions usually
subside when the treatment is
stopped. If they are severe or
symptoms persist or if you notice
any other unwanted side-effects,
consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Keep out of the reach and sight of
children.
Store below 30°C in a dry place,
protected from light.
Do not use this product after the
expiry date indicated on the label.
