Vancocin Matrigel 250mg Hard Capsules
Please read this leaflet carefully before you start to take your medicine. It does not contain all the
information about your medicine that you may need to know. So if you have any questions, ask
your doctor or pharmacist. This leaflet only applies to Vancocin Matrigel 250mg Hard Capsules.
-----What is in your medicine?----Your medicine is called Vancocin Matrigel 250mg Hard Capsules. Its active ingredient is
vancomycin hydrochloride. The hard capsules are dark blue and lavender.
Each dark blue and lavender hard capsule, marked 3126, contains 250 milligrams (mg) of
vancomycin as hydrochloride. They also contain the inactive ingredient Macrogol 6000. The
capsule shells are made from gelatin and are coloured with indigo carmine (E132), red iron oxide
(E172), black iron oxide (E172) and titanium dioxide (E171). The printing ink contains shellac,
red iron oxide, soya lecithin and dimeticone. They come in blister packs of 20 and 28 hard

by destroying certain bacteria that cause infection.

-----Before you take your medicine----Make sure it is safe for you to take Vancocin Matrigel 250mg Hard Capsules.

-----Taking your medicine----•
Follow your doctor’s instructions. Check the label to see how any capsules to take and
how often to take them.
h Adults: One 250 mg capsule 4 times a day for 7 to 10 days.
h Children: This depends on the weight of the child. The daily dose will usually be

If you forget to take your capsules on time, take one as soon as you remember. If you

You must take all the capsules prescribed for you, unless your doctor tells you to stop.

This medicine, like most others, may have some side effects. These include feeling dizzy or sick,
chills and occasionally bruising, flushed skin, pain or muscle spasm. Tell your doctor if they are

-----How to store your medicine----•
Do not take the capsules after the ‘Use before’ date on the carton and blister.
