Read all of this leaflet carefully because it contains important
information for you.
This medicine is available without prescription. However, you still need to
use TussiDrill carefully to get the best results from it.
- Keep this leaflet. You may need to read it again.
- Ask your pharmacist if you need more information or advice.
You must contact a doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve
after 5 days.
If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not
listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

1. What TussiDrill is and what it is used for
This medicine belongs to a group of medicines used to suppress and relieve
a dry cough and which are also known as antitussives or cough
suppressants. TussiDrill is an oral solution for the short-term treatment of
dry cough and cough caused by irritation in adults and children over 12
years of age.
For oral use.

Do not take TussiDrill:
- if you are allergic to the active substance (dextromethorphan
hydrobromide) or to any of the other ingredients (refer to section 6)
- if you suffer from severe breathing difficulties
- if you suffer from severe obstructive airways disease (your airways to your
lungs are narrowed) or asthma
- if you suffer from severe liver or severe kidney disease
- if you are taking or have taken in the last two weeks medicines for
depression including monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
- if you are pregnant or breast feeding
If you are unsure about any of the above categories, please consult your
doctor or pharmacist.
Take special care with TussiDrill :
Please inform your doctor if:
- you have ever had lung disease
- a persistent cough such as occurs with asthma or which produce a lot of
mucus
- your liver or kidneys do not work as well as normal
- a fever develops
- the symptoms get worse or do not improve after 5 days
You should not take TussiDrill to treat a productive cough (a cough which
has mucus or phelgm)
Taking other medicines
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken
any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Do not take TussiDrill if you are taking or have taken in the last two weeks
medicines for depression including monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
Inform your doctor if you are taking or have taken:
- medicines that can be used in sleep disorders, anxiety, depression called
central nervous system depressants
- morphine derivatives
Alcohol or medicines containing alcohol should be avoided throughout the
duration of treatment.

• Do not take TussiDrill and other cough medicines at the same time. You
may end up taking more dextromethorphan than you should in any one
day.
• You should not take TussiDrill with another medicine which is used to
treat a productive cough or to ease the removal of secretions from your
lungs.
Taking TussiDrill with food and drink
Avoid alcoholic drinks whilst taking this medicine as this medicine contains
a small amount of alcohol. Drowsiness may be increased by drinking
alcohol.
Pregnancy and breast feeding
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
This medicine should be avoided during pregnancy
This medicine should be avoided during breast-feeding as it crosses into
breast milk.
Driving and using machines:
This medicine sometimes causes dizziness or drowsiness. These effects
could be dangerous if driving or using machines. Drowsiness may be
increased by drinking alcohol. Therefore if these effects occur you should
not drive or operate machines when taking this medicine. No studies on the
effects on the ability to drive and use machines have been performed.
Important information about some of the ingredients of TussiDrill
TussiDrill contains
- 5 g of liquid maltitol per dose: if you have been told by your doctor that
you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking
this medicine. If several doses are taken a day, this product may have a mild
laxative effect. The calorific value is 2.3 Kcal/g of liquid maltitol.
- parahydroxybenzoate: it may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
- small amounts of ethanol (alcohol), less than 100 mg per 5 ml dose.

3. How to take TussiDrill
For use in individuals above the age of 12 years only.
Dosage
The usual dose is one 5 ml measure three or four times daily as required. If
the measuring spoon is supplied, it should be filled to the rim (5 ml).

The maximum daily dose is 20 ml (4 measuring spoons).
Do not exceed the stated dose.
Dosage in the elderly or in the event of liver disease
The initial dose should be half of the recommended dose for use in adults:
one 2.5 ml measure three or four times daily. If the measuring spoon is
supplied, it should be filled to the 2.5 ml marker line. Consult your doctor so
that he can adjust and increase the dosage, if necessary.
Method of administration
This medicine is for oral use.
Shake the bottle before use.
Always rinse the measuring spoon with water after use.
Duration of treatment
You should not use this medicine for longer than 5 days. You must contact a
doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve after this time.
If you have the impression that the effect of TussiDrill sugar-free for dry
coughs is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
If you take more TussiDrill than you should
In the event that you take more than you should stop taking the medicine
and consult a doctor or go to the nearest hospital accident and emergency
department immediately.
Symptoms and signs of overdose can be: nausea, vomiting, dizziness,
nervousness, agitation, confusion, drowsiness, breathing difficulties and
swelling of the skin, face, tongue or throat.
If you forget to take TussiDrill
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you forget to take this medicine you should take it as soon as possible if
you are still coughing.
However you should not take more than the recommended daily dose.

4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, TussiDrill can cause side effects, although not everybody
gets them.
Allergic reactions may occur – skin rash, redness, itching, swelling of the
skin, face, tongue or throat and in very rare cases breathing difficulties
which may come on suddenly. If any of these symptoms occur you should
stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately

Rare side effects (occurring in less than 1 in every 1000 people who have
taken medicines containing Dextromethorphan) include
- excitation, mental confusion
- allergic skin reactions (redness, itchy rashes, hives). Risk of allergic
reactions caused by an ingredient called parahydroxybenzoates (possibly
delayed) may exist
Very rare side effects (occurring in less than 1 in every 10000 people who
have taken medicines containing Dextromethorphan) include:
- dizziness, drowsiness
- breathing difficulties, which may come on suddenly
- nausea, vomiting and gastrointestinal disturbances. Risk of mild laxative
effect due to the presence of an ingredient called maltitol may exist.
- swelling of the skin, face, tongue, throat, lips and eyes
If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not
listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

5. How to store TussiDrill
Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Do not use TussiDrill after the
expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP. The expiry date refers to
the last day of that month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste.
Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These
measures will help to protect the environment.

6. Further Information
What TussiDrill contains
- The active substance is dextromethorphan hydrobromide (15 ml per 5mldose).
- The other ingredients are methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), propyl
parahydroxybenzoate (E216), ethanol, liquid maltitol, punch flavour (ethanol,
water, caramel colorant (E150), vanillin, limonene, ethyl acetate, decanal,
linalol), sodium hydroxide, purified water.

What TussiDrill looks like and contents of the pack?
TussiDrill is a practically colourless, clear viscous oral solution.
TussiDrill is available in 125 ml or 150 ml bottles.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
