2.Before you take this medicine
Do not
take these pastilles if you are hypersensitive
(allergic) to the active ingredients or any of
the other ingredients in this medicine
(listed in section 6).
take if you have liver or kidney failure.
take if you have breathing difficulties or
lung disorders (e.g. emphysema, bronchitis
and bronchiectasis – a condition with
increased mucus production).
take if you are taking monoamine oxidase
inhibitors (for depression) or have taken
them in the last 14 days.
give to children under 12 years.

What this medicine is and
what it is used for
These pastilles contain the active
ingredient pholcodine which has a mild
calming action formulated to bring
effective relief of stubborn dry coughs.






Pregnancy and breast-feeding

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice
before taking any medication.
If you are pregnant, or think you may be
pregnant please ask your doctor or pharmacist
before using these pastilles. They may not be
suitable for you.

Warnings

Before taking this medicine, speak to your
pharmacist or doctor:
if you have a chronic or persistent cough or
if your cough produces too much phlegm.
if you have asthma or are suffering from an
asthmatic attack.
if you have liver or kidney problems.





Taking other medicines

Before taking this medicine, speak to your
pharmacist or doctor:
if you are taking barbiturates, sleeping
tablets, strong painkillers, sedatives or
tranquillisers.
if you are taking medicines for high
blood pressure.
if you are to receive neuromuscular blocking
agents (anaesthetics used in surgery).
Do not take with any other cough or cold
medicines.





Alcohol

Avoid alcohol whilst taking this medicine
because it may increase the risk of side effects
and may make you feel more drowsy.

the ingredients of this medicine



Each pastille contains a total of 0.7g of

sucrose and glucose. If you have been told by
your doctor that you have an intolerance to
some sugars, contact your doctor before taking
this product. This should be taken into account
if you have diabetes mellitus.

Driving and using machines

If you feel drowsy when taking this medicine,
do not drive or operate machinery.

3.How to take this medicine
Always take this medicine exactly as
described in this leaflet. Check with
your pharmacist if you are not sure.

Dosage

Suck one pastille slowly as required
until it dissolves.
Adults, the Elderly and Children over 12
years: Suck up to 2 pastilles every 4 hours.
Do not take more than 12 pastilles in 24 hours.
Do not exceed the stated dose.
Do not give to children under 12 years.
If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.
If you take too many pastilles: talk to a
doctor or pharmacist straight away.
If you have any further questions on the use of
this medicine, ask your pharmacist.



4.Possible side effects
Like all medicines, these pastilles can cause
side effects, although not everybody gets them.
If you get any of these serious side effects, stop
taking this medicine and see a doctor at once:
Difficulty in breathing, swelling of the face,
neck, tongue or throat and rash (severe
allergic reactions).
These other effects are less serious. If they
bother you, talk to a pharmacist or doctor:
Agitation, confusion.
Drowsiness, dizziness.
Phlegm on the chest.
Nausea and vomiting.
Constipation.

If you get any side effects, talk to your
doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes
any possible side effects not listed in this
leaflet. You can also report side effects
directly via the Yellow Card Scheme
at: www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard.

By reporting side effects you can help
provide more information on the safety of
this medicine.

5. How to store this medicine




Keep out of the reach and sight of
children.
Do not take after the expiry date
(last day of the month) printed on the
carton after ‘Use by’.
Do not store above 25°C.
Store in the original package.
Do not throw away any medicines via
wastewater or household waste.
Ask your pharmacist how to throw away
medicines you no longer use.
These measures will help protect
the environment.

What this medicine contains

Each pastille contains the active ingredient
pholcodine 0.12%w/w (2.2 mg per pastille).
Also contains: modified starch (tapioca,
maize), sucrose, liquid glucose, vegetable oil,
menthol, star anise oil, beeswax, eucalyptus
oil, peppermint oil, green S (E142), water.

What this medicine looks like and
contents of the pack

They are blue-green, round pastilles.
They are available in packs containing
2 blisters of 10 pastilles (20 pastilles
per pack).
They are also available in blister packs
of 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 24 and 30 pastilles in a
carton. (Not all pack sizes are marketed.)
