This product is called Lemsip Cough for Chesty Cough Relief 100mg/2.5mg/5ml Oral
Solution, it will be referred to as 'this medicine' in the rest of this leaflet.

What this medicine is and what it is used for

For the symptomatic relief of acute coughs and catarrh associated with influenza, colds and
mild throat infections.
Each 5ml contains 100mg of the active ingredient guaifenesin and 2.5mg of the active
ingredient cetylpyridinium chloride.
Guaifenesin helps loosen the mucus (phlegm) from the lungs to help make it easier to cough
up, while the cetylpyridinium chloride is an antiseptic which acts against the cause of throat

What you need to know before you take this medicine

Do not take…
• If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in this product. See ‘What this liquid contains’
for the full list of ingredients.
• Stop use if your cough lasts for more than 5 days, comes back, or is accompanied by a fever,
rash or persistent headache.
• This medicine with any other cough and cold medication.


Warnings and precautions
• Speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
• Speak to your doctor if you suffer from a chronic cough, if you have asthma or are suffering
from an acute asthma attack.
This medicine contains
• This product contains sorbitol. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an
intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctors before taking this medicinal product.
• This product contains 9.0% v/v of ethanol, i.e. each 5ml dose can contain up to 0.364mg of
alcohol, equivalent to 9ml of beer, or 3.75ml of wine. This can be harmful for those suffering
from alcoholism. It should also be taken into account in pregnant or breast feeding women,
children and high risk groups such as patients with liver disease or epilepsy.
• If you have taken some of this medicine and are to undergo a urine test, tell your doctor
prior to the test as guaifenesin may interfere with the results.


How to take this medicine

Adults and children 12 years and over:
• One or two 5ml spoonfuls.
• To be taken every 3 or 4 hours.
Children under 12 years:
• Not recommended for children under 12 years.
If you take more medicine than you should
If you take more of the liquid than you should, speak to your doctor or pharmacist

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
• Stomach discomfort has been reported.
• Nausea, vomiting and hypersensitivity reactions.
If you feel you are reacting badly to this medicine in anyway, or notice any other side effects
not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

How to store this medicine

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not store above 25°C. Do not refrigerate or freeze.
Do not use after the expiry date shown on the label and carton

The other ingredients are purified water, glycerol, ethanol, levomenthol, liquid sorbitol
(E420), saccharin sodium, sodium cyclamate, povidone, custard flavour, raspberry flavour
and blackberry flavour.
This medicine is a clear pale straw coloured liquid with characteristic odour and flavour, for
oral administration, in cartooned amber glass bottle of 100ml.
