Please read this leaflet carefully before you start taking this product. It contains
some important information about this medicine.
Keep this leaflet with the tablets. You may want to read it again or show it to your
doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner.

1. What Echinapret is and what it is used for
This product is a traditional herbal medicinal product containing dried pressed
juice of Echinacea purpurea herb. Each coated tablet contains 175 mg of dried
pressed juice from fresh flowering Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench herb (38–56:1).
 chinapret is a traditional herbal medicinal product used to relieve the

symptoms of the common cold and influenza type infections based on
traditional use only.



• are allergic to any of the ingredients or to plants of the Asteraceae (Compositae) family
such as daises, marigolds or artichokes (see section 6 for list of ingredients.)
• have a tendency to allergies such as hives, allergic eczema or asthma
• are pregnant or breastfeeding. The safety of this product has not been sufficiently
established in pregnant and breast feeding women
• suffer from the infection tuberculosis
• suffer from connective tissue disease with formation of clumps of cells (sarcoidosis)
mainly occurring in the lymph nodes, lungs and liver
• suffer from auto-immune diseases such as inflammation of the connective tissue
(collagenosis) or multiple sclerosis
• suffer from conditions which decrease your resistance to infection (e.g. HIV infection
or AIDS)
• are on therapy to reduce your natural response to infection (immunosuppression e.g.
chemotherapy or radiotherapy for cancer; history of organ or bone marrow transplant)
• suffer from blood disorders involving the white blood cell system such as low white cell
count due to bone marrow disorders (agranulocytosis) or blood cell cancer (leukemias)
• are under 12 years of age.

Tell your doctor

before using this
product if you:
• have an intolerance to
some sugars

• are prone to allergies.
There is a risk of

Echinacea
(e.g. anaphylactic
reactions)

Taking this product with other medicines
Do not take this product if you are already taking immunosuppressant medication such as ciclosporin or methotrexate. If you are
taking any other medicines, check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.
Driving and using machines
It is not known if this product may make you feel drowsy or sleepy. However, if you do feel drowsy or sleepy, do not drive or
operate machines.
Important information about some of the ingredients
This product contains Ponceau Red E124 which may cause allergic reactions.
Patients should be aware that taking products containing Echinacea species may trigger autoimmune diseases.

3. How to take Echinapret
Directions
Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years of age: Take 1 tablet 3 times
a day. Swallow the tablets whole with some water or other liquid.
Not suitable for children under 12 years of age.

Like all medicines, this product can have side-effects. Possible side-effects are shown below.

O Do not use these tablets after the expiry date. The expiry date is printed on the box and blister pack. Any unused medicines should be disposed of safely.









Start taking this product at the first signs of a common cold.
Do not use this product for more than 10 days.


Do not exceed the stated dose.

If your symptoms persist or worsen:
You must speak to a doctor or qualified healthcare practitioner if your
symptoms worsen or persist for more than 10 days, or if you develop a high
fever.

Allergic (hypersensitive) reactions such as:

• rash, hives
• inflammatory disorder of the skin (Stevens-Johnson-Syndrome)
• swelling of the skin due to fluid
• swelling of the facial area (Quinke‘s oedema)
• shrinking of the airways in the lungs with obstruction (bronchospasm)
• asthma and life-threatening allergic reactions (anaphylactic shock)

Echinacea can trigger allergic reactions in
patients who have a tendency to develop
allergic reactions.



Association with autoimmune diseases has been reported such as:

• inflammation of the brain and spinal cord (disseminated encephalitis)
• painful lumps on the shins (erythema nodosum)
• low blood platelet count (immunothrombocytopenia)

If you forget to take a dose:
Continue to take your next usual dose at the usual time. It does not matter if
you miss a dose.

• destruction of blood cells by antibodies (Evans Syndrome)
• dryness in the mouth and eyes with renal tubular dysfunction
(Sjögren‘s Syndrome)

6. Further information
Each coated tablet contains 175 mg of dried pressed juice from fresh flowering Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench herb (38 – 56 : 1).
This product also contains the following ingredients:
Tablet core: Maltodextrin, hydrophobic
colloidal silica, lactose, microcrystalline cellulose,
magnesium stearate.



If you take too much of this product (overdose):
Speak to a doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner and take
this leaflet with you.

I f you have any questions or are unsure about anything, please ask your
doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner.

Stop taking this product immediately
if you experience any allergic reaction.
Consult your doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare practitioner immediately.

Store the tablets in a cool dry place where the temperature does not exceed 30°C.
Keep the tablets out of the reach and sight of children.

Keep the tablets in the blister pack until it is time to use them. Store in the original packaging.

Stop taking this product immediately if
you experience any signs or symptoms of
autoimmune disease. Consult your doctor, pharmacist or qualified healthcare
practitioner immediately.

Tablet coating: Sucrose, talc, titanium dioxide (E 171), povidone K 25, macrogol 6000,
basic butylated methacrylate copolymer (Eudragit), colloidal anhydrous silica, iron oxide
(E 172), sunset yellow (E 110), ponceau 4R (E 124), montan glycol wax.

This product contains lactose, sucrose and Ponceau Red E124.
Echinapret tablets are round, biconvex, smooth and apricot-coloured. Available in packs of 30 or 90 coated tablets.

A decrease in the number of white blood cells (Leucopenia) may occur in long-term use (more than 8 weeks).
