Symptom Checker

Step 4: Read and complete the decision guide to learn more about your symptoms.

Jaundice in Adults

For most people, hepatitis A is an infection that clears up on its own without causing permanent harm. However, symptoms can be severe.

Discuss your concern about possible hepatitis A exposure with your doctor. You should be evaluated by a physician, such as your primary care doctor or a doctor in an emergency department, as soon as possible.

Hepatitis A can be diagnosed by a blood test. Your evaluation will probably begin with blood tests and a look at the liver using an ultrasound of the abdomen.
