The effect of caffeine on miscarriage, a baby's birth weight, and other pregnancy outcomes is a hotly debated topic. Very high amounts of caffeine can pose problems to a developing baby. Modest amounts of caffeine, though, appear to be safe. The most common recommendation is that pregnant women not exceed 300 milligrams of caffeine per day, the approximate amount in three cups of coffee--but that amount may still affect your sleep.
